Melissa, glad that you got your share of pancakes and vodka in during your trip!! :rotfl:

You MUST try and get a picture of your son and his harem. The whole thing sounds so funny!!

You are welcome to join the jet ski/parasailing venture, that is, as soon as we can all figure out how to move somewhere next to beaches and warm water. But until then, we'll have to figure out a way to meet in Vegas and have some fun (I just don't give up on this idea, I know . . . ;) )

Disneyeveryyear - unfortunately I know a few of those helicopter parents. It took me over an hour of calling to find the limo that I DID get for DS and his friends. I did pass up some huge 14-person ones in order to get ours (8-person). I may be the "Boy Scout prepared" mom here in Colorado, but the LAST thing I wanted to try and do is collect $$$ for that many people!! At least I know most of the parents of the kids riding in "our" limo, so hopefully it will make things a little easier. DS wasn't sure that he could find enough kids to fill it - now they're coming out of the woodwork wanting to ride in it because the local limos are all rented now and unavailable.

Just finished catching up on the thread and now it is time to go home!

Beautiful dress, I am sure it is stunning in black, and I love all the burgundy accessory ideas.

Glad everyone seems to have found clothes to wear and a date (or 6) to attend with.

I will head home where out biggest drama is DS12 can't find anyone to go with us to WDW in February. DD8 already has her playmate set up (an 8 year old boy whose mother told me last night is ADD). I am starting to worry a little.

Good Mornig!
MELISSA....6?!?!?!?!?!? WAY TO GO! Harem is right...and with the gold tie black on black...VERY cool....yes, the ties, not bow ties are the thing. Can you just imagine his arrival? I see a yearbook opportunity in this...sorry he has ACT's that day...DD is still fretting over hers. As if it isn't bad enough we have a full day of school AP placement testing is the same day, and ends a 1/2 hour later than a normal day...seriously, what's next? They are really putting the kids thru the ringer. Our local paper had a huge front page spread on how stressed out the kids are trying to live up to living in the #2 spot to raise kids/etc., and then 3 more pages inside on how all kids are under so much pressure...it's so true. Sorry you had to fill us in in "triplicate" but I do appreciate the effort and glad to see you back.
Disneyeveryyear...my DS is 12, and just got dumped...can he go to WDW? We have no future trip planned, even w/free dining again, just not gonna happen. Need a car, mom 's issues etc. He has a thing for Belle, and that would surely take his mind off of his heartache..just let me know! He has many ADD tendencies so maybe he could wear/balance the 8 year old out! Since DS will graduate 8th next year ( God willing) and DD will graduate HS, maybe we can swing a few days as a celebration. I have always liked the graduation cap Mickey ears and need a reason to get some! That is really nice of you to take other kids along on the trip. The limo story is one of many, I am sure, there must be a site out there somewhere listing all the Prama episodes.
Eliza...how goes all?
Sandy, how did the LaCross game go? love the comparison to a colt...I could picture it immediately! Be Prepared...yep, SOMEONE has to be!
Horseshowmom...DD said a few were less than prepared, many without their ID's...and were actually denied access to testing even tho the teachers knew who they were. Between that and the bus I think I would have gone ballistic.
Mandy, you still with us?
Small tornado blew thru here yesterday and I have lots of our neighbors willow braches/yard debris, so better get out there and clean it up...check back later w/you ladies, and any others that join in!

TGIF!
The Prom countdown here is 2 weeks from today :yay:

Good morning to you, too!!

Lacrosse game went well. DS's team won 8-5. They are in the playoffs for the first time ever!! It's the 3rd year for the lacrosse program at our high school and their first winning season ever. DS was very happy last night - the rascal also helped pour the Gatorade container of water over the coach's head after the game. ;)

Our prom countdown is 2 weeks from tomorrow, so we'll both be very busy that weekend!!

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Good morning all,

Everybody sounds like their activities are being wrapped up nicely. I can't wait to see pics.

Middle school drama is on low right now, thankfully. This weekend DD goes to a babysitting course, so maybe that will translate into something profitable this summer, even if it is just working for me... ;)

I forgot to write earlier that DD's BFF and DD had cheerleading picture taken together earlier in the year during cheerleading season. We had it hanging on the fridge, because, well they looked so pretty! I came home one day and it was turned around... Needless to say, I removed it from the fridge. I didn't toss it (though I was tempted) in the event there is a reconciliation prior to this girl moving this summer (like DD said, at least she is moving!).

It seems as though things for all of us have calmed somewhat with the kids, but other family things are popping up (parents). I told my DH a few months ago, I knew we would be the sandwich generation, I just wasn't prepared for it to happen this soon (we are 45 and 42)!

Ohhh Ohhhh Pick ME, Pick ME:yay: :yay: - I'll go!

That works for me. Last night he suggested that his grandma be his "guest." He really is a good kid and loves his g'ma to a fault. Unfortunately, she won't ride the rides with him.

Pam

Pam, send him down. We will probably fly out of Bloomington or Champaign, or you could just ship him out of ORD. I am not sure I could handle two with ADD. We called another mom last night. They are neighbors and I really like this kid, but he is OCD. We are waiting to hear what his parents say. What do you call a mom who takes an ADD and an OCD kid on vacation? N*U*T*S!!!! Sorry your DS12 just got dumped. Mine still has no interest in girls. Pam, does your son IM? Mine is on the computer nightly, maybe they could become computer pals. What interests does your son have? Mine is big into BSA (scouts) getting ready for Lincoln Pilgrimage this weekend. He plays the trumpet (band competition this afternoon), sails and loves to do yardwork at grandma's house ($$$). What about your kid? Mine is now officially taller than I am and skinny as a rail. Here is mine with Belle at DL.

Here is my dilemma. We told the parents of the invited kids that the only expenses the kid would be responsible for would be spending money. We would pay for plane ticket, park tickets, meals, etc. Well the 8 year-old parents said he could only go if they paid for his plane ticket. The 12 year olds parents also indicated that they wanted to pay his way. If this is the case, how do we go about making airline reservations, etc. Do I book our tickets and then tell them...here is our flight, book your own kid, or do I book and pay for all 6 and then tell them how much it cost? It is so awkward. That is why we offered to pay for everything. I didn't want this to be weird.
What would you all do?

We are facing some of this also, luckily not too bad. My dad died 4 years ago and my mom is alone for the first time in her life. Sometimes she appreciates the freedoms, sometimes she is paralyzed by making a decision. She asked my opinion on new carpet for her living room, so I told her which of the 22 beiges I liked. She comes home from ordering and the salesperson convinced her to buy burgundy. So when she asked for my opinion for her bedroom, I told her why ask me, ask the saleslady! She is starting to ask my DH for investment advice, which he is only too happy to give. We are 46 and 43. She is only 67, but being alone is all new to her.

First of all, disneyeveryyear, your son is a real cutie!!

The way I've done it in the past is to book all the flights myself and tell the parents what they owe me (giving them a copy of the receipt if they asked). That way, I was guaranteed to get everyone on the same flights, which was one less thing to worry about (as I said, I am more that a BIT anal about planning! :) ). The people then paid me before we left on the trip with no qualms.

Good luck with your trip. You sound like a brave woman!!

Good Morning Ladies - It's Friday!

Mother of the keeper of the harem, checking in:rotfl2: Gads!
OMGosh he is just sooooo proud:rolleyes: Yesterday, it was "so and so has 3 dates, but I have 6!" DS is a football player and the Spring training testosterone is kicking in. (He really is a good kid and is just going with a group of girls, but he is playing it up for all it is worth)
He says the girls like to have him around because he is huge and very protective of all of them. He is also well mannered and treats them all like Princesses just like he does his sister, who I am afraid will never get a date as long as her brother lives anywhere in the state.;)

Sandy: What is LaCrosse? Our Prom is 2 weeks away also (5/5)

Disneyeveryyear: I would ask the parents how they want to handle the airplane tix - you purchase or they get on line at the same time you are and everyone hits the purchase button at the same time.

Eliza: Sandwich generation - don't ya just love it - DH is 49 cruising up on the big 50 on 1/1/2008! I am 41 who sometimes feels about 90. My parents are 68 -Dad is bizarre (whole nother thread) but cranking right along and Mother has been a basket case for years. Funny, at her care facility she really is one of the younger "memory care" patients. It is sad, especially since she could live for many years sitting in a corner doing an occassional puzzle and drooling.

DH's mother died almost 30 yrs ago and his Dad remarried a woman who has 3 boys of her own. She is about 10 yrs younger than Dad who is 76. They are on the East Coast and her boys are much more involved than we are. We are too far away and DH was up and grown by the time his Dad remarried. One of his younger brothers stays involved also (mainly due to proximity). We see them every other year or year or so.

Pam: A tornado! Yikes hope all is well.

Horseshowmom: I can see my DS showing up in his jammies - we all know teens are not at their best in the mornings, why not schedule these kinds of things to start at 1 in the afternoon when they are all semi-human.

Testing:
I know DS is starting to get a little wound up......
Coming up in the next month he has the SAT (5/5) the ACT (6/9) the NATS Athletic Combine (6/2) and 4 AP tests - not sure when those are.(end of May would be my guess)

When I registered DS for the SAT I did not put his Social Security No. on the application - it didn't give me any kind of error, do you know if this will cause problems down the road? I have emailed his counselor twice and not gotten a response.

I have a question for you HS moms - if your kids take AP tests does your district require they take the test and if so does your district pay for the tests? (I know all about the college credit, benefits etc) this is a general question.
Here, if the kids take an AP class, they must take the test which I must pay for or the district removes the AP designation from their transcripts (which I think is just plain wrong, I feel like I am being held hostage and by paying for the tests I am "purchasing" the AP designation)

What you all doing for the weekend?

We need to go finalize the tux choice

DH and I have a dinner and Wal-Mart date tonight - he has been very cranky, which means he is feeling neglected (oh please:sad2: , but you know how it goes) We've been married for 20 yrs, I got his # We are going for Mexican and then to do some household shopping without the kids (DH loves to shop)

Going to a friends "EarthDay" party tomorrow :cool1: up in the woods of N. Calif where they have 6 acres.
Huge 200+ people potluck with Peach Daquiries being the signature drink, big bon fire at the end of the day and a live band of old people like us who play good ole Rock & Roll.
To celebrate the Earth event, we all get 1 plastic cup with a number on it. We are expected to keep that cup all day and then recycle it in the plastic bin thereby being good consumers of the Earth's resources. Hippie friends really good excuse to have a huge, heck of a family party! Oh yeah, it is supposed to be 85 tomorrow:woohoo:

I think that is it for the moment

Melissa, lacrosse is a field game played by two teams of ten players each who use a long-handled stick with a net pouch on one end to carry or throw a ball into the opponent's goal (definition courtesy of google.com). The Native Americans invented the game. A bit like hockey; lots of checking, body blocks (only for males - in women's lacrosse you can't have the physical stuff). The kids wear helmets, shoulder pads, elbow pads, mouth guards, and padded gloves. My DS loves it and it IS a fast-paced, fun game to watch.

Sounds like you've got an exciting weekend ahead of you. We have a lacrosse game tonight and another one tomorrow night, and DH has to prepare for a Tuesday trial (he's an attorney, so NO, it's not for himself!! :) ) so I've got housework to catch up on.

As for the AP tests, we also have to pay for the tests. I don't know about any removal of an AP course designation if you don't take the exam, though. But as for paying for them - think about them this way -our DD took 6 AP courses in high school. She got a 4 or 5 on each of them. When she went to CU-Boulder, she was able to get 39 hours of class credit for them! She started college as an almost-second-semester sophomore. So this fall she will almost be a junior after being there for only a year. Credit for them depends on which college or university your kid attends, but it turned out to be a great financial "deal" for us.

And as for the SAT question. You did fine by not putting his social security number on the registration - just be sure and make sure he puts it on the actual exam when he takes it.

Everyone take it easy and have a great weekend!!!

Sandy:
Thanks for the testing info.
Lacrosse sounds like fun. I love watching kids sports, you just never know what will happen and you can't bet on anything! My DS likes those "contact" sports while I sit on the sidelines and cringe until I know he is not at the bottom of the pile....

Have fun with that housework:rolleyes:

I'm losing my mind - just looking at the calendar, the prom is 1 week from tomorrow! Yikes, I was off a whole week, good thing DS has got a handle on it or he would have been really late!

Melissa & Sandy on Sunday morning:coffee: :coffee: :surfweb: :coffee: :coffee:

:goodvibes It would be so much better if you did a load of laundry and dishes in my home opposed to in my honor.....................:flower3: :flower3:
True enough, but I think I'd rather watch YOU doing dishes and laundry on Sunday with a slight hangover. :teeth:

Man, your tough.........I don't do dishes, that is why I had kids:lmao: It was a happy day when the 8 year old princess: could reach the cabinets with the help of her stool. :woohoo:
Besides that, Sundays are a very strictly enforced jammie day! The folks at church really don't mind:rolleyes1

Can't get a hangover if one never stops drinking:lmao: :lmao:

Disclaimer:
I really am not the lush that I portray myself as, really, stop chuckling, it's true...................:rotfl:

That's my biggest fear . . . who is going to help me with the housework once the kids graduate from high school?!?!

I know you're not a lush, Melissa. Neither am I. We just drink to relax and to regain our sanity. :rotfl: I'm really pretty boring most of the time.

We won't have anyone to cook for - we will be like those little old couples at the store buying a weeks worth of Healthy Choice TV dinners, a loaf of bread and a 5th of Vodka:rotfl:
I'm more concerned with who is going to clean the cat boxes, take out the trash and bring in the TV dinners and booze:confused3

It is almost more fun to "talk" about than to do and talking about drinks is WW friendly!

Haven't heard much from the other members of the Lushettes today:sad1: Hope & Pray all is well.......

Everyone have a great weekend - I am going to try and sneak out of here a little early (gotta get ready for the Wal-Mart date with DH)

Holy cow, everyone disappeared for the weekend.

Things are kind of quiet around here for now. DS and DH are at a big BSA event (Lincoln Pilgrimage) and DD8 seems to think I should be her personal playmate. My migraine says differently. She wants to play a game (we already played cards earlier), so I told her I was going to play the fold the underwear game and she could join me if she wants. She is declining.

The house is a mess and the laundry is stacked up. I guess I had better turn off the computer and get moving.

It is also 85 degrees here today and sunny. Why am I inside? Maybe we should go fishing, DD loves that.

Check in when you can.
