Sorry if this is fairly basic, we are just starting to plan our trip. We would prefer to stay on property, but don't like having to go to sleep when the kids do. We have been looking into renting DVC points, but the 1BRs seem expensive! Which resorts have reasonably priced suites? We are traveling in January. 2A and 2K. Thanks in advance!

The Art of Animation resort opened for this reason. It is going to be priced a little high but not as expensive as the DVC properties. Did you look at the prices for Animal Kingdom Villas on Davids vacation club rentals? I have used the site a couple times and It worked out great.

If you use the figures from Davids dvc rentals as an example a 1 bedroom would run about $2050 at Old key West for a week or a 1 bedroom at Saratoga would run around $2350. Since prices arent out for Art of Animation in Jan so you would have to estimate, it is running around $2154 in early Dec.
I would rent DVC because I love the full kitchen and the washer and dryer in the room. Both make it so easy for our family and my kids have no problem sleeping on the sleeper sofa in the living. I have always had great luck with DVC rentals. We have a 2 bedroom at Saratoga for July and cant wait.

There is a big different in "suites" at the resorts & villas. Villas are usually cheaper than the actual suites, and personally I think the DVC villas are much nicer & more roomier as well (they also have a washer/dryer in the 1BR & 2BR, no suite has that). There are very few actual suites in the resorts, other than the new AoA. If you need something less expensive than a 1BR villa, I think you're only options are AoA or a Family Suite at a value.

For example, a Family Suite at AsMu or AoA will run appx. $300/nt, while a suite at BC or any deluxe will run over $1000/nt. A 1BR villa at SSR will run $450-$550/nt. Depending on season. Now this is with no discounts, a PIN or AP discount will reduce that by 20-30%. Also renting DVC points from an owner will be much less.

Have you looked in to the Cabins at Ft Wilderness? We stayed there on our last trip, and they are reasonably priced, and set up very well. they have a full kitchen, 1 bedroom, and a murphy bed in the living area. We had 3 adults and 3 kids and it was pretty comfy.

Lowest cost - 2 rooms at a value, with a connecting door, then family suite at All Star Music. The Art of Animation suites are aboug $50 more a night than the All Star Music. The cabins at Fort Wilderness are about the same cost as the AoA suites and have a full kitchen. All of those options are considerably less than a DVC 1BR villa.
