I started my new weight loss journey on January 6th and I was all gung-ho. The first two weeks I dropped 3 lbs each! I was flawless on food and walked at least 5 miles a day, went to the gym 3-4 times a week and did at least 30 minutes of cardio 4 times a week. After that I lost .2 and .2, so I added a few more hours of exercises and I gained 1.4! Last Monday I started anew, but while I was doing my cardio an awful pain struck my leg so much that I could not continue. I have been forcing myself to walk the 5 miles a day (my dog has helped with the forcing since she is now accustomed to that much walking too), but that is it. I have done NOTHING else this week. On a whim I got on the scale this morning and I am already down 1.6 for the week (and I don't officially weigh in till Monday)! I think I must have been overdoing it!

It is possible that you were building muscle or that you were not eating enough calories to keep up with all the exercise. You would probably be better off adding in the exercise more gradually. Congrats on the loss!!

I agree that you may have been building muscle. Also, people tend to lose a lot the first couple of weeks on a diet, but it's mostly water. If you can lose 1.5 lbs a week after the first week, that's really quite good. And, there is always some random fluctuation in weight.

Walking 5 miles a day is a substantial amount of exercise (that's well over an hour of brisk walking), so you shouldn't feel that you have to do more.
