and what are you doing/giving up/ etc?
I joined a new Church in Oct. Definately more involved in Church this year than I was last.
What are you doing for Lent this year?

I give up chocolate every year...I was going to give up breathing this year but that would be easier than giving up the chocolate. :teeth:

It would be nice to give up being pregnant :teeth: I am nowhere near ready for the baby to come yet, but physically it is starting to really be hard.... :)

I am participating in Lent, but we don't have the give things up thing. Is that a Catholic tradition?

Not a participant, but good luck to all those who are. :)

Yes, it is part of the Catholic observance of Lent.

I'm giving up one of my kids. Haven't decided which one yet, it depends on their behavior between now and Wednesday.

Seriously, I try to encourage my kids to do something, rather than give up something. Like a good deed a day.

As a family, we always give up desserts (really hard for all of us!), then we each choose something personal to sacrifice AND/OR something positive to add. I'm giving up tv this year--my biggest, boldest Lenten sacrifice ever!

I was taught that this is the true spirit of Lent. ::yes:: By doing something for 6-7 weeks, you should be on the way for the behavior to become a habit. What we do during Lent should become a discipline (where the word disciple comes from) - a habit that we would like to take on for life.

I wish everyone a Blessed Lent. :)

I'm giving up self-deprivation

Giving up excessive time on the computer. And yes that means that I will only check the DIS once a day. And getting up early to spend time with God. :)

I haven't given it as much thought as I usually do. I have to remember to go to mass on Wed!

But then you can always call the Church for a special dispensation(correct word?) for a special day. :teeth:

Our Catholic school got a special dispensation (again, word?) for a Casino night!!

Or maybe that was just for eating meat on Friday....been a loooong time.

I am going to try to give up swearing, not that I swear often, but I want to swear never! ( This is a yearly Lenten sacrifice.)
I also vow to stick to my diet and exercise plan.
I will try to spend some extra time every morning and evening with God.

My DD's are going to try to stop biting their nails, to fight with each other less, and to listen better.

One year St. Patricks Day fell on a Friday in Lent, and the local bishop gave a dispensation so that everyone could eat corned beef!

I usually take on an extra spiritual discipline. This year this means fasting for me. Not a 40 day thing (I'm not ready for that), but it might include some extended time.

We don't give up anything really. We make a Lenten promise. We always pick something to work on that will make us a better person. We always try to be better listeners with each other. :thumbsup2

That happened here, too! This year St. Patrick's Day is also on a Friday!

I usually give up something and try to do something better/good.

All of this Lent I'll be recovering from my yucky lung cancer surgery, (I always feel l have to say I'm a life long non smoker along with that! )so that should cover me!
