Lenses to take to Disney

Well I leave in about 24 hours to Disney and I decided to go kinda light on the equipment this time and I cant decide which lens to take as my walk around lens. Im taking my 70-200 L 2.8 IS and my 50 1.4 along with my 30D and leaving the XTi.
I cant decide between my Tamron 28-75 2.8 or my Canon 28-135 IS. Going to Not So Scary Holloween Party on the 28th and all the other parks and going to see all the parades.
Which lens would you take? Thanks.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is perfect for the evening Halloween party. The 28-135 isn't enough for hand-held night shots. I've had excellent results w/ my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 mounted on my 300D and later my 40D.

For more zoom....use your feet zoom.

I agree with the Tamron, and if I can give you one other suggestion about MNSSHP; camp out the corner of main street right where the trolley tracks 'Y' off. And stand on the left handside of the street. If you can get that corner then you'll have a great shot of the parade coming around the hub straight at you (and don't forget the headless horseman rides through about 5-10 minutes BEFORE the parade.)

From what I've heard, the Tamron is probably a better lens than the 28-135mm... I used mine a bit last trip but found that it just wasn't wide enough for some situations. For example, it was difficult to get decent shots during a character breakfast or other up-close situation. But, if that's as wide as you have with your on-hand selection, then I guess it's kind of a moot point!

Well I'm here in florida now, not at Disney yet we check into Pop Century on Sunday. I decided to take everyones advice and take the Tammy with me as well as my 50 1.4 and my 70-200 IS for when we go to Sea World.
Groucho for the character breakfasts I am going to use my Canon 870is, I used that the last time we went to Crystal Palace and the pictures came out very good and its a nice wide angle P & S, I use it all the time when i dont feel like carrying one of my SLRs.

Ok since you are talking about lense maybe you can help me out. Do you recommend lense hoods? I am new to all of this. I usually just aim and shoot. I would like to learn more about my camera and take great pics not just average pics. I have 9 months to learn how to do this. I have 2 lenses(28-80mm and 70-300mm) with my d70 and 2 filters(never used because I don't what to use them for). I found on another thread that a 18-200mm vr was recommended. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, definitely use the lens hoods! They will both improve the pictures (by blocking stray light that can cause flaring) and protect the lens, which is especially important in a crowded place like WDW!

What filters do you have? If they are UV (AKA skylight) filters, you really don't need them at all. If they are something else, they may be useful in certain circumstances.

The focal length of the Nikon 18-200mm VR and the Sigma 18-200mm DC OS are the same, although they are not the same lens (obviously) because Nikon makes one and Sigma makes the other. When I was looking to buy a lens for my D60 I got the opinions of fellow DISers to see whether I should splurge on the Nikon or save some money and get the Sigma and hands down the Nikon was recommended. Having never used the Sigma, I can't comment on whether or not it is a good lens, but I can say that I love my Nikon 18-200mm VR and don't regret spending the extra money AT ALL.

I would like to learn more about my camera and take great pics not just average pics.

The difference between an average photo and a great photo is usually more about composition than anything else. We spend a lot on our photo equipment, much less on books, and even less on viewing great (and not so great) photos, yet our photos would improve much more as a result of the books and shows rather than the fancy equipment.

I believe the reason for this is that it is relatively easy to buy equipment but much more difficult to learn how to create art. I am as guilty as most but plan to do better!
