Lens questions

So I learned the CMOS/crop adjustment means I multiply by 1.6 (for Canon) so that a 50mm shoots like an 80mm on a film camera....

And I want to see what that feels like to zoom with my feet at home with my kit lens 18-55mm...do I set it at 50mm...will that work? Or would I need to have an 80mm zoom to see what it feels like?

Do these 1.6 multipliers apply to every lens so that my 18-55mm is 28.8-88mm or does the multiplier only apply to primes?

They apply to all lenses used on SLRs that I know of.

My Canon 17-55mm EF-S lens - which I think can't even be mounted on a Full-Frame Canon - resolves like a 27-88mm lens. A 70-200mm EF lens (a lens that can be mounted on a Full Frame camera) resolves like a 112-320mm lens when mounted on my Rebel XS.
