What's it for? Filter adjustments?

That's interesting!! None of my lens hoods have doors!! I just reach my finger in there......

Sounds like a good idea, maybe.

Which lens/camera is it on?

Mine is black, but that's it allright.

I love my lens doors, and am really sad that my Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 doesn't have one - I'm considering cutting a slot into it, after getting spoiled by having it on my Pentax kit lens and 50-200mm. Yes, its for reaching in there and adjusting a polarizer or other rotating lens.

Not having it on the Tamron really stinks as my Hoya 67mm HMC circ. polarizer is "slippery" on top, I pretty much have to remove the hood to rotate it. That's probably my biggest gripe with that lens.

The strange part is the PH-RBC xxmm is a flower hood anyway so it's not all that difficult to get at the front knurles (or whatever the rough part of the ring is called) to adjust it anyway. Where was it on some of the 3" deep round hoods from the days of Yore?

The Pentax 50-200mm has a large round solid hood (non-petal) and also has the cut-out. I assume that most/all of the Pentax lens hoods have the opening - the kit and the 50-200mm are the only modern Pentax lenses I have that have separate lens hoods so I'm not really sure, though.

It's one of those things that once you get used to it, you really miss it when it's not there. Even with a petal hood, it still makes it less fiddly to adjust the polarizer, and less chance of getting smeary fingerprints all over it.

I always assumed that it was a common feature on lens hoods from all manufacturers, but maybe not? :confused3
