I would consider myself a photography enthusiast. I bought myself a Canon Digital Rebel XTi and have 3 lenses with it. I have a Sigma 70-300mm, of course also the kit lens that came with the camera. The third is a Canon EF 20mm 2.8 lens. I am looking to get a couple more lenses because somehow I feel that I could still have a really good lens that I could keep as my regular lens, such as a wide-angle zoom.

Are there any suggestions?

I really like the combination of the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 for medium shots and the Canon 70-200 (either f/4 or f/2.8) for longer shots.

The two lenses I use the most are the Canon 28-235 IS and my Sigma 10-20

The next used would have to be the Canon 70-200L - but this one is heavy and huge and I pretty much have to use a tripod unless it is a bright day and I am able to get that shutter speed fast.

Mark, thanks for the info and thanks for the link to your photos. They are really great. I noticed several shots were taken at ISO 400. Do you regularly use this setting?

DVCJen, I have seen your shots before and also do enjoy them. I especially like the one you did at the TX state fair of the train wheels that was in bw. That was beautiful. I also appreciate your suggestions.

BTW, here is a link to some shots I have taken and uploaded online as well. Feel free to critique. I would appreciate any good, constructive feedback as it will only help to improve. Thanks again.

I use ISO 400 pretty often. Every camera has an ISO level at which the image starts to degrade. Its starts slowly, with a bit of noise and a slight loss of dynamic range and it gets worse as you go higher. For my camera, I don't see much of an issue until I get above ISO 400. So I often set it at 400 unless I'm shooting in very bright conditions. With my old camera, I wouldn't go above 200 unless I had good reason.

I'll second this, these are the only 2 lenses I currently use. I still want to get a 10-20 or so range lens, but haven't done so yet.

What do you like to shoot and how have your existing lenses been treating you? I lust after the 70-200 F4IS that is referenced a few times, but that does not mean it would be good for you.

I think you need to figure out what you want to shoot in order to make sure you get what you need, not what someone needed.

That's a good question. What do I like to shoot? I just like shooting anything that might capture my eye, so to speak. I enjoy taking pictures while on my vacations, such as at WDW, and I enjoy taking pictures such as like at the air show near my house this past weekend. I'll shoot close-ups of the roses in my garden, etc.

I've mentioned to my DW that I'd like to invest in some lights to do like portraits - not for profit, just for my own enjoyment.

The link in my signature will take you to some of the shots I've taken. They will show the gamut of what I like to photograph...I think. ;)

I have 4 lens, but mostly use my 10-22 and 24-105 as I can cover most everything I need to shoot with that. very occasionally I will also bring the 70-200, but just do not shoot at that focal length as much anymore. The 10-22 is an amazing lens and I get shots that I would otherwide have missed. Plus the perspctive is so different than anything else.
