Will DVC let you get a length of stay UPH eliminating the first and last day? Do you get a 10% discount on the UPH? Do you have to get it when you check in?

We are going to BWV for 10 days in July and would like to have unlimited access to the parks if at all possible.

Thanks

Hi, I'm fron Long Island too :)

Last time I was at BCV they let me drop my last day which was all I wanted to drop. And yes got the 10% discount right there.

You do have to buy the UPH passes at check in. When you stay at a DVC resort on points, there is no way to buy UPH passes in advance. (Thus, you cannot get an advance purchase discount). The good news is that the 10% discount, coupled with the ability to drop the first and/or last day is a better value than the advance purchase discount.

Enjoy your stay!

Here's a little differnt question:

Can my guests get the 10% DVC discount on LOS passes as opposed to buying advance purchase park hoppers? We are going to the BWV in April with another couple and I have reserved 2 studios for us. Obviously, my friends are not DVC members, but it looks like the DVC discount is slightly better than the advance purchase discount on regular park hopper tickets. For 4 days the DVC cost would be $179.10 per person as opposed to $192.00 for advanced purchase.

Will my guests be entitled to any DVC discounts?

Yes, your guests can get the discount. Once a year we take family and we do this very thing. To avoid any problems, we add the adults names to the ressie and walk down with them to the desk to buy the passes, but we have never had a problem.

I would love to know this too. If I can drop BOTH the first AND the last day, I would be interested in one of these. But not if I can only drop one of the days (we are going to enjoy the resort the first day, and the last day we are heading home).

Also, with the 10% does it come out to be about the same price per day as a 4 day park hopper would per day? Or is it still more expensive?

Thanks!
DJ

I just called OKW and was told to get LOS with a "dropped day" I have to unlink my ressie and "check-out & in", with no guarantee of not switching rooms. They also said, 10% is only for Disney Card, not DVC.

So, now I'm really confused!

Sandy

We have purchased several UPH (LOS) and we do get a 10% discount with DVC. I have usually dropped the first day, but never tried both. My understanding is that you can only drop one...thus, the scenario that the CM at OKW mentioned. If you are there for 6 days, but only want a 4 park pass - you drop one on a 5 day ressie and then don't buy one on the 1 day ressie. Seems complex and difficult, it would probably just be easier to get a 4 day Park Hopper at that point.

Is the LOS only available as an ultimate park hopper? We have annual passes, but my guests need tickets. We are staying for 4 nts. / 5 days and plan on visiting theme parks every day (including the 1st and last). We do not plan on visiting any water parks or Pleasure Island, so a regular park hopper would be sufficient.

Will it be cheaper to just get an advance purchase 5 day park hopper or a LOS with the DVC discount (we don't need the ultimate PH features)?

They were misinformed.
A cm will at OKW check-in will drop the first day or last day, and,if you get lucky, both days.(I have had both days dropped). DVC members get 10% off of UPH(LOS) not Disney Club members.

Looking at the Ticket Price Comparison Chart on the WDW Information Guide, it would appear that the 5-day park hopper would be the lower-cost choice by about 7 bucks or so. A 5-day advance purchase park hopper would be $231.12, while a 5-day/4-night UPH is $265.19 before the 10% DVC discount (and therefore, about $238.67 after discount). I know you say you don't need the UPH features, but I don't think there is a way to get an LOS passport without the extra features.

We dropped the first and last days at VWL in May, and got the 10% discount. They didn't give me any problems at all about dropping both.

Technically you cannot drop the first and last day but it happens all the time, just no way to guarantee it. One issue is that if you have check in and out that is counted as one stay for purposes of the UMP as long as it's the same resort even if different unit sizes.

To answer your question, yes you can get the first and last day dropped if your arrival and departure times make it obvious that you won't use those days. Here's our specific details:

We were at OKW for 10 days last October. We checked in at 10:30pm on Thursday night. Our CM asked if we wanted to buy tickets as we checked in. I mentioned that our late arrival and early departure made the UPH for 10 days much more expensive than a 7 day Park Hopper Plus given we would only be onsite for eight full days. He asked what time our departure flight was and I showed him the airline reservation showing 10:40am. He excused himself for a minute to go out back. When he returned he told us the Manager would allow us to drop the first and last days and buy an 8 day UPH. With the discount, the price was only a few dollars more than the 7 day PHP.

Its really hit or miss while most times they will allow you to drop both, the rule is that you can drop one or the other. I have been there 6 times on length of stay passes where they allowed me to drop both. The last time I was there the CM told me he wasn't able to do this and the manager backed him up. Rather then get upset I told them that I would get passes outside the park at the stands that sell them at a discounted rate, all of a sudden they would do it for me , they gave me some line about being a frequent guest and they would bend the rules for me.

We always drop the last day since we usually leave early on check out day. On 2 trips we arrived late in the day and dropped both days with no problems, once at BWV and once at OKW. I think that if your check in time doesn't make sense to include that day that you will definitely have no trouble. One time we arrived at 10pm and all the parks were closed. The CM even said that he was sure that we didn't want our tickets to include our check in day and did we need the last day included?

When we checked in at VWL last year at about 4:30 in the afternoon, they wouldn't let us drop first and last day; it was one or the other...........

Isn't this intriguing! When we stayed at OKW in July '02, the CM checking us in offered to drop the 1st and last days, and we didn't even have to ask. We checked in at 5 PM on arrival, and left about 9 on departure. I wonder if those check-in/check-out times had anything to do with the offer.

As always, it seems that the CM's have a great deal of personal latitude as to what's offered.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at BCV. Checked in before 10am so we could use (and wanted) tickets for that day but not for check-out day. I did not mention dropping days at all, and neither did the CM. He just brought out a placard describing the UPH pass, and said he could sell me tickets for either 4, 5, or 6 days, and which length would I like.

As it was presented to me it seemed like policy, at not at all like CM discretion. The key here is that it was not presented at all as "dropping days", but rather as my choice for number of days.

By the way, the UPH is the only pass available at check-in with the DVC discount. Plain park hoppers with advance purchase are a little cheaper than UPH with the DVC discount. For example:
5 days UPH- 277.97 - 10percent is 250.17.
5 days park hopper advance purchase is 231.11.
