My husband is a lego fan. Last year for his birthday I got him a gift card that he decided to use at the Downtown Disney store. The clerk who helped us said if we bought online at the store, they'd ship for no charge. Win for us because it saved lugging a giant box on airplane. I'm assuming it was a win for them too because they could take/fulfil order online and not deplete store inventory.

My question is do they still do this? Anyone know?

Some times lego.com offer free shipping not sure if they will have it when you go down there. But if you want something and they dont have it in stock they will ship it to you for free. If he a fan tell him to join their vip rewards program it free and you can use it at any lego store and you get piont they add up i got 5,10,15 off it like you get some thing off if you want each time or you could save them for one big purcahse. They dont make you use the piont you can save it up til you get 200 off then use it for a big purchase or you can use them when you want.

sorry double post

Lego.com does run a lot of shipping specials. Sometimes there's a minimum purchase (which generally isn't a issue :rolleyes1 ) One thing to watch is there are different items sold in different countries. So, while something may be available on the US, it may not be available to be shipped to another country. I have had this issue when looking for some "hard to find" items only to discover it's for sale in one contry but not the other.:confused3

Another tip for the truly avid Lego fan.... go to Lego.com and find the store you want to visit. They have monthly calendars and frequently run specials and have special events. For example, I took Ian (DS -7) on the first Tuesday of September and he got to build a small Lego "thing" themed for the month. September was a boy with a backpack. October will be a Frankenstein-type chatacter. It was totally free, no purchase required. Kids had to be present to participate. Some events require advance reservations which can be made by calling the store, and others are "walk-up" type events. Also contained in the calendars are product sales which are great for stocking stuffers.:santa:

The real question is whether Lego offers shipping discounts for international customers. I don't know how it works for Australia, but for Canadian customers, Lego operates a Canadian web site with shipping costs specific for Canada. It's been a few months since I looked at the web sites, but they had reasonable shipping rates if I used the Canadian web site, but the price of each set was 50-75% more than prices on Lego.com.

I found a great deal on a discontinued set on my last trip. The Lego store offers reasonable shipping options for delivery to US customers, but international deliveries require using very expensive courier services ($100 shipping costs for my $150 set).

I had my set wrapped in several layers of brown wrapping paper, and paid $25 to have it as my 2nd checked bag on my flight home.

My only other cost-saving option would have been to take it to a post office and shipping as a regular parcel, using "ground" (not air) service. This would likely have cost at least $20 and would have taken several weeks. It also may have complicated my customs declarations when I returned to my home country. (Claiming several hundred dollars of merchandise that will not arrive for several weeks -- that raises red flags for customs agents and tax collectors.)

That's awesome ! Our closest Lego store is several hours away, near my folks. But its an awesome tip, nonetheless. And, yeah... Funny how that $75 minimum for free shipping never seems to be a problem. Can you say "Star Wars Lego-obsessed kid" ?
