Legoland?

We were there at the end of June on a weekday. A lot of the food places were not open, but there were still plenty of options.

Our son really wants to go to Legoland. We are considering going for a day in July while in Orlando. DS will be 12 by then and our daughter will be 15. I know that’s above the targeted age range. Think it will be worth a day? We’ve enjoyed different types of parks (Dollywood, Disney and Universal).
Never been

I have never been to Legoland and I'm looking into going to the Orlando location. It would be myself, my husband, and 5 yo son. It looks like it is little kid-friendly. Does anyone have any reviews on it? Would 1 day be enough for the park? We are heading to WDW on August 24th and we were looking into going to universal for a day, but for the 3 of us, it would be a lot of money. Legoland seems more affordable for us. I would appreciate any feedback about the park and experience.

There are already some good comments about Legoland in this thread. Also, if you search this forum for "Legoland" in the title you will find a couple other good threads.

For a family of 3 with a 5yo, I would definitely pick Legoland over Universal, if I could only do one.

I'd take a 5-year-old to Legoland over Universal any day.

Not only does Legoland have more rides geared towards little kids, it is set up in such a way that every "big" ride has a smaller ride or playscape right next to it. I took 2 big kids and 1 little kid (almost 4) two years ago. The younger one could ride most things, but when she couldn't (or didn't want to) ride something, there was always something else nearby.

Universal has two kiddie areas, one in each park, that kind of concentrate the rides for little kids. There are other rides scattered through the park that are good for the whole family, but some of them are intense enough that your son might not enjoy them, even if he meets the height requirements. This spring we took a trip to Universal. DD was almost 6, and she loved it, but we spent a fair amount of time utilizing rider switch, and splitting up. There were rides she COULD have gone on from a height perspective, but they were too scary - some she went on and screamed and vowed never again, and others she flatly refused to try. YMMV with the adventure level of your child.

Universal was a great trip, but to me, it feels geared more towards older kids and adults, with some kiddie things thrown in so as not to exclude families. Legoland is designed with little-to-medium kids in mind, and your son is the perfect age. I think your family could absolutely have a fun time at Universal, but I think your son is the targeted demographic for Legoland, and would get more out of it. Coupled with the price difference (which is even better when you use a BOGO coupon for his ticket), Legoland is probably the better choice for this trip.

It is a fairly small park, compared with Disney and Universal. One day is enough to do it, unless you buy a combo ticket and spend a lot of time in the waterpark.

Thanks for all the honest feedback. I think I'm leaning towards going to Legoland. What is the BOGO ticket you mentioned? I believe when I looked up ticket prices through my work discount program it was $79 a person? We were only interested in the park for 1 day ticket and maybe if we like it we can do the water park in another future trip.

Legoland often has discount codes available for a free child's ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket. When I went, I think they were partnered with Honest Kids drink pouches and there was a BOGO code on there. I'm not sure if there are any grocery items that are currently running the BOGO promotion, but if you have a Lego store near you, their free magazine almost always has a BOGO offer in it.

We did Legoland in July with my 6 yr old son. It's great for kids of all ages, from the younger "duplo" set through pre-teens.

A basic google search for Legoland BOGO should pull back the webpage to order the Buy and Adult get a Child Free tickets. Note that these are full price 1 day + waterpark tickets. We paid $125 for 1A/1C.

I will say, get there at park open. The first hour is GOLDEN there, especially on busy days. They also have a Hero pass, to work similar to Disney's DAS if you should need it.

We had a great time, and the waterpark was surprisingly very enjoyable for a cool off break in the heat of the day.

We went last month. had a good time. my 4 yr old is still talking about it. and we got rained out for about half the day. still was a blast. if you find the small bagged lego sets, usually in places like Target by the register, most of them have the bogo ticket coupon on the back. they cost around 5 bucks for the sets. tickets for just the park (not with the water park) are $99.
