So, our plan for quite a while has been Sea World on May 1, then either a second day at Sea World or head up to Disneyland through the 6th.

Today I get an email for Homeschool Days at Legoland....on May 2.

So....I know next to nothing about Legoland, but hey, we'll be RIGHT THERE....but do we want to do it? My girls are teens, though they're not your typical jaded "I'm too cool for that" teens....they still love going to Disney and riding the rides many teens would think too young for them, lol. Is Legoland so geared towards little kids that they'd not have fun?

And....is there anywhere to get a glimpse at the Legoland menus/prices? I'm spoiled by being able to plan out where I want to eat, and what's it's going to cost me at Disney, that I want the same for Legoland!

How long do you plan for Legoland? The Homeschool Days includes the SeaLife Aquarium for a buck more, so I'm thinking of doing that too. Park and aquarium hours are 10 to 5.

Any hints, tips, complaints, ideas, etc. would be much appreciated.

I remember food being priced a lot like Disneyland. If you have time to read the reviews on TripAdvisor, I think that's where I figured out where we wanted to eat. I think we ate at the pizza/pasta place. I've heard the apple fries are delish but I didn't get a chance to try them.

I think you need to let your teens make the call. Let them look at the websites for both Legoland and Sea World. They might think the Lego structures are cool enough to warrant a visit, or they might want to spend more time lingering at Sea World vs. rushing through. The Legoland rides are very low-thrill, so it's more about seeing everything made of Legos or looking like Legos. No FP so some of the popular ride lines can get long.

If I were choosing, I don't think I'd spend a lot of extra money on a day at Legoland if the second day at Sea World is really cheap, or if everyone is itching to get to DLR.

We're going two weeks later for homeschool days with our 13 year old. (And the baby, but it's FOR the 13 year old.) We've never been but our plan is to do the whole day and get dinner somewhere on the way home. (I have a thread about that on here.) We only plan lunch and maybe a snack at LL itself and we're passing on the aquarium since it doesn't look like much of one and we live reasonable distance from the big one in Monterey and the Steinhart in San Francisco. (Monterey does homeschool days- free- in the fall.)

The thrill rides at Legoland are a lot more relaxed than thrill rides at Disneyland, but they are fun just the same. The park is charming, very pretty and we enjoyed walking around for a day, but our kids were younger - they were 4, 7 and 9 at the time and the 9 year old does NOT like thrill rides, and found even theirs were a bit too thrilling at times.

We enjoyed the barbecue restaurant, the food was good and it was reasonable. I found it a little more reasonable than Disney prices, but still more expensive than outside dining. We did get refillable sport bottles, and got our use of them for the day and enjoy them at home too.

We've been to the SeaLife in Phoenix and found that a couple hours there was enough to see everything in as great of detail as we cared to, but others say we didn't stay long enough. We saw pretty much everything we cared to at Legoland in a day and we did not commando from open to close.

I guess the best testimonial is that the kids are a few years older now and they still ask about going back. They would rather go to Disneyland, but they like Legoland too.

I'd say to do it and add in the aquarium. I haven't been to Legoland since before they added on the aquarium, but used to have an AP and went there with my son many times. Honestly, once kids hit 11 +, it loses a lot of its appeal as far as repeat visits go.

The food was basic - nothing I would specifically recommend. It is expensive, like all theme parks.

The shows are usually pretty funny and there are a few rides that teens will enjoy.

BTW, how much is the ticket for homeschool days? When I was homeschooling and Legoland opened, homeschool days were only $9./ticket!

My fiancee and I in our 30's had passes last year... I was suprized how many times we went. It is alot of fun. I think your teens would like it as long as they had an open mind its not disneyland..... As for food there are no fanasy resurants.... Main choices are pizza, pasta, hot dogs and a bbq place. I would plan to be there the whole time it is open... Aquarium is quick but fun I would say no longer then an hour but the food quart in the aquarium is really good I would check it out when desiding where to eat. To me it's better then the parks food. Also if you like minature golf there is a fun course inside the park maybe the teens would like to play. It is an extra charge 5.00 a person but thats cheap for a full game of golf... They also have a water park thats normally 10.00 extra small but fun not sure if it will be cheaper for ur event.... hope the info helps have fun.... I would go for sure.

We've been to LL a few times. Last time was last year with my DD's Girl Scout troop. DD was 10 then. We had a good time, the park is beautiful but most likely we won't go back. I think DD11 is too old for it now. But it I found a good deal maybe we'll take DNephew2 when he's a little older (and taller)

When we went last it was a nice weekend day in April. Not too crowded. Park did close early, 5 p.m. It can get very busy during the summer, and hot.

There aren't that many thrill rides though the Knight's Tournament is pretty cool! You can adjust your thrill level. Lost Kingdom Adventure- we were expecting something along the lines of Indiana Jones but it was so cheesy-not worth the wait, even if only 5 minutes. If you girls enjoy beautiful landscaping, cool Lego buildings, etc. then it may be a good choice. But if the really want to ride cool rides, then they are probably too old. Though you would know best.

Food-both times we have been we have eaten at Ristorante Brickolini which is pretty good. We did check out the Knight's Table BBQ and that looked good but since we weren't hungry while in that area we decided to keep on walking.

We did try the apple fries and Granny's Apple Fries and they were a hit!

We weren't sure if we could bring in any food/snacks/beverages so we left them in the car. They don't do a bag search at LL so after we had lunch I took our leftovers to the car (yup, ordered too much) and brought back in same snacks and my Diet Coke. :)

It really is a beautiful little park. If the tickets aren't too much then you might want to give it a try. As for the Sea Life Aquarium we decided to skip it since most reviews I read said it was pretty small and only took an hour or so to do it.

Here are some pictures ( it is a beautiful park to take pictures)

Menu at Knight's Table BBQ. It is hard to find menu info on LL. Maybe this will help.

Not to highjack but I found the pricing. It's $21 for LL or $25 for LL and Aquarium. Available on Mondays in April (too late) and May.Mary 2, 9, and 16. Advance registration is required. One place says 2 weeks, another says 1.

I searched Legoland and home schooling and LL's page showed up.

I just noticed the OP was planning on going tomorrow, May 2nd. So if they decided to go I hope they have fun and she'll report back.

is LL boring? we were planning a DL trip, and were going to skip this, my kids are 11 and 18 and LOVELOVELOVE legos, but I worry the park is meant for 5 year olds? everything I've read says kids older than about 9 will be bored....

If your kids like legos I would think they would like it for the legos alone. I could not go on one ride and have a great time walking around looking at all the legos. I don't think it is something you would do every year but for sure once! Maybe even twice.
