Legoland...Few Questions

So, we are going to Disneyland/CA NEXT Christmas. My son LOVES Legos...and I would like to consider a day trip down to Legoland.

What's the best ticket option (I doubt we'll be swimming at the water park, if it's even open then; and I'm not POSITIVE about the aquarium...my son might enjoy it though)?

What are the crowds like around Christmas-time (it's the only week we can all safely take, as my mom works for the school district, and she's not positive what 2 weeks she'll be off then until probably Feb or March; and we all have to submit our vacation requests next month)? I would assume crowds are akin to those at Disney parks...but I could be way off.

Is it even worth it to go down for a day or would we need 2 days?

I think that's about all my questions for now. Answers are greatly appreciated.

With DS4 or 5 by then he will enjoy it immensly. Everyone else will be going for him. It's not an all family experience like DLR. It will be busy. It will be cool, since it's right on the coast, it could be misty too from fog in the morning.

Plan to be there early and leave late. Traffic will complicate things as it can be a hour or a two hour drive depending on when you go.

One day should be plenty. The aqurium I would skip unless the hours for your day, have the aquarium opening an hour early.


I would go, because DS' age is prime for LL. In three or four years he will be getting over it. After more 5 years it will be a waste. It is really geared to the 3-7 age group.

We added a day at Legoland to our DL trip a few years ago. It was such a great day. Its difficult to compare DL & LL, because they are so different (and nothing can really compare to DL in my opinion), but we had a great time at Legoland. My youngest was about 4 at the time. The water park wasn't open then, and I don't know if the aquarium was either. With one day I would recommend just doing Legoland itself. Not sure if there are any bogo coupon offers at the moment, but if you can find one, you could get your child's ticket for free with the purchase of one adult ticket (at the gate). I think you should be able to do everything you want in just one day (unless you add on the aquarium). Be sure to check their online calendar (its not open every day, but it probably is during Christmas week).

I concur with the previous poster that LL is a young-ones park. My kids are now 10 and 7, and while they would still enjoy it, they would probably choose a thrill-rides park instead. But there is so much to enjoy at LL....my mom didn't go with us, but she would have loved to spend a day there. Walking through mini-land is great, plus there is a gentle boat ride...etc. My kids LOVED the dragon coaster, and my 4 year old would have done the little lego horse ride all day long if we would have let her.

We left our Anaheim hotel on a Monday morning at 8:15 am and were at LL in plenty of time to park, purchase our tickets, and wait in line at the gate. (The park opened at 10am that day).

I went to LL last summer and I am a HUGE Disney fanatic. The whole time at LL, I wished I was at DL. Being at DL, I can still partake in things, enjoy the attractions, etc. At LL, I feel the signs they have up Parents wait, Kids play sums up their motto. My son who was 5 at the time...enjoyed it. Really liked the water area where they have bridges to cross, water slides, and huge buckets that dump water every 5 minutes. Since it is geared for kids ages 4-8, adult prices should be a lot cheaper.
