I am not sure where to post this, so I am hoping someone on here can help me out.
I've never been in the lego store, but DS(6) wants to go and buy some legos with Dad while his sister and I are doing My Little Pony shopping.
I can find costs and selection on the ponies, but can't find a thing on the legos.
I know he and Dad are going to go in there and want everything, but I like a budget and want to know what to expect.
Also, I know you can fill a box, I am interested in that and if you can get DIsney character lego people. I see them on ebay, but not sure what their value is at a Lego Store.
Thanks so much, this is going to be our best DW trip yet!

Check out the prices on Lego.com. That's what you'll pay. You may find some sale/clearance items too. There are cups you can fill from their wall of Legos (various pieces). $15 for the big cup and I'm not sure of the smaller cup but it's half the size. You can build your own minifigs but can't add them to the cups. They are $9.99 for 3 minifigs. I would budget at a minimum $50.

My boys have a blast at the Lego Store! There's a lot to see and do. There's a little playground outside plus a place they can just play with Legos on some tables they have set up outside. I love to take pics of all the Lego sets they've set up.

PS They also have some girly Lego sets! :)

Most items are just the normal retail Lego prices.

The little people - you can make 3 and put them inside a little case that goes on a lanyard - it was about $10, maybe even less, my kids have done that with some of their souvenir money.

As for filling a box, it's just an empty plastic tub that you can fill with various Lego pieces (they have a huge wall of bins). There are 2 or 3 different sizes, I think the small one was $7.99 (it's like the size of a short cottage cheese container).

I'm going by memory, so my numbers may not be entirely accurate.

Oh - I guess thunderbug confirmed my thoughts on the prices! (we were posting at the same time)

I'm so glad you asked this - we're doing a special trip to WDW in December for DDs 11th birthday and I"m going to encourage family members to give her Lego gift certificates - I think she'd have a blast picking out sets!

Follow up question - do they have specific Lego sets there (at DTD) that they don't have in regular stores? We have a small Lego store in our mall.

Thanks!

I was sure that I read that the Lego store was closing.
Does anyone know when that is supposed to happen?

Usually they have just about every set that's in the catalog. You'll definitely find sets that are not in the regular stores like Target, Toys r Us or Walmart.

They do have a much better selection of sets then anywhere else but I have never seen one exclusive to disney or that store. They can always be ordered online also.

They do not (or never have before atleast) have the disney characters that you can build that they sell by themselves. But they do have keychains, I think $5 or $6 each, we have bought some and clipped off the keychain part with pliers or cutters of some sort.

We love legos!

I hope the store doesn't close! I hadn't heard that and usually spend our disney rewards $ there.

Great info everyone! I am big on being cheap...if he can get it cheaper home we will encourage that. I think the best idea is to get him to fill the cheaper cup with what he wants and get a starter set here at home. :) Then let him go wild in the store playing with everything...oh and daddy too. lol

Good to know about the selection. It really seems as though ds is going to be into this for a while, so a starter set vs a set specifically for that one main building cause seems like a better idea. And I just assumed you could get the Disney lego characters there. Good to know! I have been checking on ebay and can snatch them up there cheap enough. I might get the whole Toy Story lego men and surprise him IN DW so he feels he came home with more legos than what we buy at the store.

I sure hope they dont close, we have many years ahead of us to buy legos there. We dont have any lego stores around us at all. We are in Canada, but in the Atlantic provinces...no real big cities around. Disney store is 4 hrs away :( Shipping generally is an arm and a leg to here unless bought on clearance or super cheap.

If you are from Canada, everything is going to be cheaper. LEGO is about 25-35% cheaper, depending on the set in the States than it is in Canada at the current exchange rate.

I'm glad to hear about the fill-a-box option!

Can we fill a box with pieces needed to make vehicles? Ie, wheels, etc?

My son loves making his own vehicles but we only have 1 set of wheels purchased second-hand from someone. I cannot find a place to purchase just wheels and stuff out here.

If they happen to have them on the wall that day then yes. The selection changes though. Sometimes you can get the tires but they won't have the axles. We've picked up many tires from there though. The boys (including dh!) love to build vehicles.

When you fill you box, get all your big pieces first and then fill in all the space with smaller pieces you want so you get as much as you can for the money.

You can also buy separate pieces online but they are a lot more expensive that way.

I cant say for DTD but I'd check on ebay.

Does anybody have a picture of the cups? I can't find them anywhere on google.

OP - whereabouts are you doing My Little Pony shopping??

The fill a box My Little Pony is nearby the Lego store. I honestly can't say where for sure. But I am pretty certain between the Mr Potato head 'buffet' and the lego store.
It's about $20 and you can get ponies and Disney outfits for them, along with furniture and accesories. I've read if you fill the box just right you can squeeze 2 ponies and all the accessories. ;) So we will be doing some squeezing. :rotfl:
