My hubby and I are looking to get in shape and put in a request for information through the Lifetime Fitness website.

I received an email back from the sales rep stating that for my husband and I it would be $109 a month, plus $6 per child per month. So I set up an appt for a free 7 day trial. I was supposed to go in tonight to pick up the passes.

The manager of the club calls me this evening and says the price quote was wrong and it is actually $169 a month plus the kids' fees. This is almost twice as much, and much more than we want to spend!

The manager's price correction was verbal (over the phone), whereas I have the written price quote through the email.

Do I have any legal standing to make them stick to their original $109 a month written price quote? Has anyone experienced something like this a prevailed?

Thanks in advance!

A quote is not a contract...and its possible they made a mistake. Unless they have charged you already and you signed something that indicates YOU agreed to the quoted price, I believe that they can indeed fall back on the 'mistake' issue.

Your best bet is to probably look for a different fitness center or a YMCA and call the manager and tell him that because of the huge increase in price you have decided to take you business elsewhere.

My friend and I joined a water acrobic class through the city park and rec dept

in the brochure the prices were $24 for MOn (mons class was from 8-910)

weds was $32 for 8-9 at a fast glance youd think its because mon class goes longer but Memorial day was in there so time wise both classes were the same in length

when I called I was told by 3 different people about the difference in time until I explained about Memorial

so then I was passed on to someone else until I finally got a manager

who said there was an error in printing and the weds class was the right price

I told the guy then both classes should be paying the same amount

and if Mon class was getting break weds should be too

I said to the guy we should get a credit--at first he didnt want to do that

until I said I was go to go to the BBB--we both got the credit!!!!!!

you might try that with the fitness club especailly since you got an email with a quote--

another story I had found on the interent a cheap trip for Vegas and I printed the page to take to the TA when I got there she couldnt find that price but since I come in with the price printed from the website they had to honor that price

that was a real cheap trip!!!!

good luck--let us know how this turns out

Is it possible there was some confusion about the level of club? Lifetime has different club levels (bronze, gold, platinum and diamond). You can go to any club at your level or below. Prices vary dramatically between level. I pay $100 a month (plus tax....another 7 or so), for DH and I. My two kids (under 12) are free. Gold Level lifetime membership in the Twin Cities area.

I love Lifetime. At least our club is very well maintained, very spacious, very luxurious...and the same price as the Y that wasn't nearly as nice.

:-)
