Just wondering what the legal drinking age is as my DD and her BF will be 19 when we go (our legal age in British Columbia). I was hoping we could all enjoy a Corona at San Angel! :cloud9:

You must be 21 to drink in Florida.

And they check IDs. At the kiosks outside around World Showcase, it's limited to one person, one alcoholic beverage. It's a pain some times but it's necessary.

We have seen several people that are obviously older than 21 get stopped and not served because they don't have any id's.

actually I believe drinking age is 21 in all 50 states......

Yes, been 21 for years here, and not only do they check IDs but if someone "of age" purchases more than one drink they always ask who the other beverage is for and you need to point them out. They ALWAYS do this in Mexico.

They definitely do card everyone. When we ate at Hollywood and Vine, I'm pretty sure the waitress thought my license was chalked. She was asking me questions about where I was from and comparing my answers to my ID. To be fair, I'm 26 but I look about 18. Still, I would expect that sort of rudeness at an over-under club, not a WDW restaurant. Anyways, back on topic...they are sticklers for checking ID.

What passes for ID over there for us international visitors?

My friend and I are 21 and are coming over in August but if I'm honest, we don't look 21! We'll obviously have our passports with us but I'm reluctant to carry them around all the time - over here we have photo-ID drivers lisence cards which are recognised as official ID everywhere, would these be accepted as ID over there too?

I really don't know the answer to your question. If you are staying at a Disney resort, I would ask the resort bartender after you check-in. Then you would know for sure what Disney requires for their IDs, and whether or not you'll need to carry your passport.

I would assume your photo ID is probably OK, but it is better to know for sure.

Bring your passports. There is no way to verify if your photo ID/ licenses are real. I run a place in south FL and its US State licenses/IDs or Passports only. With so many fake IDs going around most places are very strict. We had a girl give us a fake and we knew her age (because of trouble she had gotten into, she was actually on the news) the front of her license said she was from Ohio but when we looked at the back of the ID it said FL (oops). She laughed and said she just wanted to see if she could get away with it.

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering as the legal age in British Columbia is 19. We will enjoy having water and shakes! For the people from UK, we all use our Drivers licences with photo ID. I also would be really reluctant to take passports to the parks. My youngest son was using his passport for ID a couple of years back and he LOST it!! Was very tough to get a replacement. :guilty:

I think I'll try and use my drivers lisence, if it doesn't work then I'll have to bring my passport :(

At 19, he can drink
. . . soda
. . . iced tea
. . . juice
. . . water
. . . but, no booze

The drinking age is 21 nationally. I remember when it changed (1985)- all states had to comply. I was 19 (the legal drinking age in GA) when the changes went into effect. I had my "legal" birthday three times, since GA changed the drinking age from 19 to 20 one year, then 20 to 21 the next year. I was "legal" 8 months of each year, then became "illegal" for 4.

Momofkatie, that is so funny. LOL :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Well, it was pretty fun to have 3 big party nights for my birthdays :cool1: , but not so great during Football season at UGA- the drinking age changed each Sept 1st, and I would be barred from the bars until February-BOO!!

I guess I should have been happy- my best friend's birthday is August 31st- she was only legal for 1 DAY each year!!! :rotfl2:

I really was just curious and thought we MIGHT have a beer. I don't even think my DD likes it. Reading my post makes it sound like I would sneak them a drink - sorry - didn't really mean that. I do like a cold Corona while on holidays - but only one. I only have about 5-6 drinks per year!! :hippie:

Why not take a color copy of the passport with you as well? The real thing will be protected and you have backup just in case. WDW should be used to international vistors. That's what I did in Europe.

You are correct...the feds tied the drinking age to federal highway funds...so any state that did not sign on would face a reduction in these monies.

You must be 21 to drink everywhere in this country. While drinking age is set state by state, a state cannot get federal highway funds unless it is 21 or above.
