Leg cramps help

I had to work backwards to find the solution to my leg cramps. Looking at some of the medicines I regularly take I discovered that the omeprazole (prilosec) depleted my calcium levels. The fact that I wasn't getting enough vitamin D contributed to even less calcium being absorbed into my system.
A day or so after starting on calcium/vitaminD suppliments the leg cramps subsided. I rarely get them now but when I do if I take a bit extra calcium it seems to work.

I did get confirmation from my doctor that the possibility of leg cramps could be due to a lack of calcium.
 
I like coconut water for leg cramps, or if I'm dehydrated from the flu or any other reason. It has a lot of potassium - think nature's gatorade.
 
Drinking a small tonic water everyday helps with leg cramps because of the quanine.

However if someone can't stomach the taste of the tonic water, Walmart sells pills called "leg cramps away" or something similar that the majority of the pill is made of quanine.

My mom is plagued by leg cramps night and day. She takes ALOT of potassium and still has the problems. The doctor finally tried the quinine over the counter and has worked like a charm.
 
My late DH took prescription quinine pills for leg cramps. Later, the Dr replaced the pills with something else, can't remember what. Dr. said the quinine was old-medicine, and this new medicine was better for him and for the condition.

OT, an old neighbor lady called me today. I told her I had a bad cough. She told me to make a piece of toast, butter it, then spread thinly-sliced raw garlic all over it and eat it. Said it would help kill the cough germs. Right!

Well actually their may be something in theory to that toast remedy. Garlic has natural antibiotic properties so if the cough is due to a bacteria.... There were a lot of home rememdies that we laugh off now but what made them work was the natural properties of the substances (like garlic) they were using.
