Left lane drivers!

I have seen many visibly angry drivers going 85 plus (in a 60 mph zone) tailgating and flashing those in front of them trying to speed them up - those folks should not be allowed to drive until they get their anger under control.

I rarely see any one in the fast lane in my area going anywhere under 75 (65 zone) unless itis a total freeway slowdon due to accident or typical commute times.

I agree that people should not drive who are angry and that many people drive way too fast.

But by staying in the left lane when I'm not going the speed limit and/or passing, I'm not going to change their mood or their speeding. I'm only going to piss them off that much more and encourage them to pass on the right, creating a bigger hazard.

If I am in the process of passing, though, and I'm just not doing it as quickly as the person behind me would like for me to do it, I complete my passing before I get over to the right. I'm not going to risk the speeding ticket just to drive as fast as they want when I am passing someone. But I do show my intent to get over as soon as I am able.

As far as drivers from other states, I haven't noticed a difference. Not that I'm out there looking that much. This summer I've been driving on I270 a lot between Montgomery County, MD and Frederick County, MD. Along that stretch there are a lot of out of state drivers, especially PA drivers. I can't say that I've noticed that PA drivers are any worse than any other state. When we took a road trip to Ohio we saw lots of bad (and a lot of good) drivers and i didn't notice any worse ones from any particular state.

I agree-- the topic is just something I have noticed over years of driving. Its not my fault I pay attention to license plates. :confused3

I am not from NJ or PA, but I can tell you from having traveled thru many states that YES, there are definate patterns!

In my state, the left lane is the fast-lane or 'passing-lane'. There are places where signs are posted "Slower traffic keep right". This works for everyone no matter what speed they go!

I agree with the OP... It is completely rude and uncalled for, and should actually be illegal, to travel in the right lane at exactly the same speed as the adjacent traffic in the left lane, thereby blocking traffic and creating a traffic hazard!

I agree with the OP... Not that I am one of those angry drivers, but in my mind, when I see this.... :furious:

And I've even been known to point at those signs when going by them. :rotfl2: No, it doesn't get the person to move over and I'm sure they don't see me pointing, but I feel better. :teeth:

I believe it is a state law in PA that you have to be in the right lane unless you are passing. I have had trouble both ways - following a car in the left lane that is going the same speed as the car on the right, and being stuck in the right lane with a car that won't go past me so I can pull out. It is definitely NOT a PA problem. I have heard terrible things about NJ drivers too!

I happen to like my underwear bunched up!!

I just drove the 300 mile trip from Northern Ohio to Central KY and used the right lane to pass no less than 4 times. It is more dangerous to go slow in the left lane and have those behind slamming on the brakes than to go slightly above the speed limit with the flow of traffic. My philosophy is that if an interstate is safe to travel in Texas at 75, why is a similar interstate only safe at 65 in Ohio?

For the hotshots that want to go 100 though, it is not our job to slow those people down, the State Patrol should be doing that.

All 4 people that I passed on the right this evening were paying no attention to the road, except for the Florida car.

What if you have spent the first 28 years of your life living in NJ and the past 4 in PA? :confused3

I still consider myself a NJ driver! Now get outta my way! :moped:

Pa driver here!!!

Here's my philosophy and I'm sticking to it. If the right lane is clear AND smooth (no pot holes or just in dire need of repair), that's where I'll be.

If not, I'm going left.

I'm usually driving above the limit so if I'm in the left, and I can get over without slowing down and getting stuck in slower moving traffic, I will.

However, if I'm already doing 75 in a 65 and you come flying up on my butt, I ain't movin'! If you tailgate, I ain't movin'! If you flash your lights, I ain't movin'!

Play nice and I'll think about it.

:moped:

Wow! We agree on this.

I refuse to move over if you are on my tail. If you see me giving you the hand signal to back up, then BACK UP and I will get over when it is safe to do so. My life is too important to endanger it for some tailgating idiot who wants to go 95 in a 65mph zone when I am already going 80 and flowing with the traffic.

Well, statistically speaking, I have noticed that posters from NJ tend to get their underwear in a bunch more frequently than posters from other states (namely PA).......

I am half ;) .

I have to admit, I hate a driver in the left hand lane who is doing 66 trying to pass someone in the right hand lane doing 65. We saw alot of that this past week and ironically enough, it was in PA.

I guess we all have different ideas about how fast you should be going while passing someone. To me, if you're not willing to pass a car relatively quickly, you should stay behind him in the right hand lane. Otherwise, you choke the flow of faster moving traffic in the left hand lane.

Oh no you didn't!! :rotfl2:

It is not just the East Coast :-)

Nebrasaka natives call drivers from IOWA Idiots Out Wandering Around (according to my dh ;) )

Now, I don't call them that - I am from Florida, so I know crazy drivers!

But, I have to say my DH has a point :rotfl2:

Oh yes I did!!! :rotfl: :lmao: :teeth:

Pam, a resident of the Keystone State, who NEVER hangs in the left lane, signals her intentions and quickly turns off the device, and throws all of her car litter in a trash can. I am practically an

Drive right and pass left isn't a choice in New Jersey.. it's the law. State troopers LOVE to pull out of staters over for this violation!!!
