On another note orangetiggs I hope you and your family have a safe trip home as we are all looking forward to your trippie, and seeing pics of how those gorgeous girls of yours enjoyed their first trip to the most magical place on earth

I'm hoping they took loads of pictures :) Actually I think we shoudl be sending some :wizard::wizard: from the sandman to make sure the girls sleep on the flight home!

I hate departure day, it's always so sad :sad1:

Have heard sinister stories about the behaviour of Disney before, why are you wary?

In my opinion the word sinister in reference to the way Disney handles situations with its guests was probably the wrong word - in fact I can't think of a word that would have been more wrong.

My original unedited post is above. It doesn't say anything in reference to the way Disney handles situations with its guests. It mentions behaviour.

Now if you look at Disney Corporation as a whole - they have history of behaving wrongly on occasion. Look at Michael Moore's movie that Disney tried to stop releasing - because it risked their tax breaks in Florida (George Bush's brother Jeb lobbied Disney very strongly), the accusations of using factories which employ child labour. The Monorail operator who got killed, one of the reasons being their was no SOP in place by the company.

At OKW the week before last, a child got in trouble in the pool, a lifeguard jumped in. The child was fine, within 10 mins four suits appeared, camera's were pulled out, interviews with lifeguard held. Question - was this for concern of the child or a company covering their *** and making sure they were not at fault. Part of my job is investigating accidents, so watched on in amazement.

Maybe sinister is too strong, maybe acting cynically.

Disney are no means the worst though, important to add.

Anyway, don't want to hijack the thread, so I will move on..

Right, I'm not going to post on here again so you can have the last word if you so wish.

This was not intended to be an argument. I found your choice of word funny. So I said so. I did not expect this to turn into a thread hijacking debate. There is nothing to debate. I think you used the wrong word, I saw the light hearted side of it and it's a shame you didn't join me, have a laugh and let the matter rest.

Life is too short to be serious all the time Kevin.

Personally I would like to think both. In any industry when something goes wrong it is the responsibility of the company concerned to investigate it (you already said you do this yourself so why so surprised when other companies do the same :confused3)
If we ever have an incident or accident at work those concerned are interviewed at the first available opportunity (as per HSE regulations) so that a full and true account can be given while it is still fresh in the mind. This isn't done to aportion any blame but so that lessons can be learned and a reoccurence can be prevented.
But my gut feeling is that the health and safety people over there are the same as those over here and were probably just excited to get up from behind their desks and get a bit of sunshine :lmao:

I thought the same 2Tiggies and :lmao: at that comment for the same reasons as you lol

Question - have Disney delivered for Orange Tiggs? or has she cancelled her DVC membership because Disney have not helped her?

I don't think the whole story about the fire has been explained and I doubt we will ever find out.

Dcl man not really liking that comment.

The real story of the fire is we went to epcot for adr at chefs de france at half 6 got back to room at half 8 to security taping our door up as the stove had somehow caught fire, disney wont give us anything other than what i have just said, i didnt go in the room as i had the babies and it was full of smoke, my husband did and was black when he came out and stove was on balcony

We bave cancelled dvc as disney have refused to help us on anything we need for insurance and our losses.

Hope this clears it up for you

Sorry to hear that Disney didn't help you resolve the fire issues. I'd hoped that they were just being slow and that they'd eventually come through for you. :)

Did they give any reason why they are dragging their heels\not helping?

wow! how did the stove manage to catch fire in such a short span of time!!
you were only gone for 2 hours!!!!

i can't imagine what temperature it could have been on that would have caused a fire in such a short time....unless maybe there was something in the stove..

i mean, even if a stove is set on a really high temp, i would think there would have to be something wrong with the stove for it to light up in such a short time...
gosh that's scary to think about!!!!

I agree - I would expect to see a LOT of people in suits if a child's life had to (potentially) be saved by a member of staff at any organisation. What do you think happens if a child has a serious accident at school? :confused3

DD was bitten by a stingray she was feeding at Discovery Cove - just a little bite but enough to draw a bit of blood...
you should have seen the suits pop up!!
The lifeguard was actually concerned about DD and took care of her in terms of first aid, but all the suits were interested in was getting our agreement that we weren't going to sue them.....i wasn't surprised....
i didn't sign anything...i wasn't planning on suing them, but i certainly wasn't going to sign anything....

in any case, i'm sure it's standard procedure at any organization dealing with the public in this way...

Disney is a magical place. Their cookers turn themselves on and then catch fire. Did Mickey Mouse spontaneously combust?

Thanks, considering we were on dining plan and didnt know to turn the thing on I would say the place is magical, dont like your tone and im sure if you had lost items and days of your holiday you would feel the same

It could have been an electrical fault. I'll be honest, comedy isn't your forte.

I may not be a comedian.

It could be an electrical fault or the OP could have turned the cooker on. The question is what caught fire?

The other point is this. If Disney handled the situation so badly why did the OP buy DVC and then cancel it when they got home? Were they hoping for compensation for the fire and when they didn't get any they threw their toys out and cancelled their DVC?

I got the impression that the OP is furious because Disney refuse to give them the proof of the fire that they need to claim money for damages on their travel insurance. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Im not after compensation to buy dvc, we have looked at dvc for years, we cancelled due to the way disney have treated us and the situation.

I havent chucked my toys out the pram, i am annoyed that we could of been in the villa asleep when this happened, the items that caught fire were things placed next to the top of the stove.

I have been on these boards for years now and love everything disney, we spent a small fortune getting married there and i feel very upset they would not help us. Its americas way of life to sue for anything and we do t do that over here, we get the relevant paperwork and go through the proper channels, we are unable to do this as disney will not acknowlwdge we need these documents.

I would appreciate if you would speak to me or about me like the way you have. We wasted days of our hard earned holiday chasing these documents when we just wanted to enjoy disney with our twins and after a hard year of sudden deaths in our family

Im trying to stay away from here as it hurts to much as disney is a big part of my life and yet people like you have to make horrible comments

I think most of the problem is that nobody knows the whole story - only bits and pieces. And to be honest we don't need to know the story as it is none of our buisness.
However Sarah did say in her other thread that she thinks that they or the girls may have turned it on so people will be basing their opinions on that. :confused3
The stove was left on apparently, we havent even used it so we or the girls must have knocked it, didnt check it before we left as we knew we hadnt used it.

Lost around 200$ worth of toys and clothes for girls, loads of things smoke damaged that im trying to wash/clean

Need to get an incident report and hope our insurance pays out.

Everyone came on the thread at the time and wished them well, expressed their concern and offered advice - as the good people of the Dis usually do - and I'm sure they all kept an eye on the thread for updates about how they were coping, although none came. This is understandable though as I am sure Sarah and her family had other things on their minds.

My own interest in the whole story is purley personal.
As many of you know Dizzy was in the room at the time of the fire and suffered from smoke damage. As he holds great sentimental value to our family we are quite keen to get him home so we can see what damage he has and how best to get him sorted out. Obviously the kids know what has happened are waiting patiently for him to return but despite numerous messages on both facebook and the Dis Sarah has yet to reply to any of them - even though she has time to reply to this thread and post facebook updates.
So Sarah - I will ask again.
Have you posted Dizzy home and if not when can we expect him back?
The longer we leave it the less chance there is that we will be able to get him back to former glories so can we please get this sorted sooner rather than later :worship:

Sorry i have had two poorly girls and havent been outnwoth them, he will come back tomorrow for sure, he is fine just dirty. Ill pm you the tracking number

Sorry i havent been ignoring you just busy sorting girls, disney and insurance out
