Leaving tomorrow for a trip I started planninf a year ago.

WDW from 12\29 - 1\3 and then down to Miami for a 7 night cruise. Both my children graduated from college this past May and this was their graduation gift.

We feel blessed that we can do these types of trips and also that both my wife's parents and mine are also able to join us. The kids are bringing their significant others so they'll be 10 of us in all.

So for the last few days I've been a little bummed out! No more planning to do. No more decisions to make. Packing done.

What a strange feeling. Does anyone else get this way right before a trip?

My biggest fear is that it'll just fly by and we'll be home wondering where the time went. I wish I could slow down time!

Very very normal. Happens often with vacations, big events, even weddings/honeymoons! Some people get unhappy before the big event. When they think about it, it comes down to the event almost being over. For some of us, it's hard to stay focused on the present, especially if our brains have been planning and planning, living in the future, for days/weeks/months/years.

It'll be OK. Things might fly by, but just being aware that you're feeling funky about it can help you slow things down in your head. :)

I have done all of my planning, have my days all mapped out and everything is worked out wonderfully. So now there is nothing to do but pack in the next 4 weeks. But, instead, I find myself fiddling around with my touring plans and I've ended up messing things up a number of times. So I think it's best I take the boring route and leave well enough alone and start my packing list. lol

Completely agree with everything that's been said!

The best thing to do is enjoy all the efforts of your year of hard/fun work. Then as soon as you're back home... start planning the next one! :cool1:

Bummed, really?

You're about to go on, what sounds like, a great vacation. I think lots of people would love to have your problem.

Dan

I get it. I was talking to one of the kids about something today and I said " in 12 days". It dawned on me that my vacation will have come and gone in 12 days!! :(

I usually get bummed to but it's mainly because I know how fast it will all go. :(

One of the things that bums me out when looking at the planning of our trips, is the last day, when I know we will be heading home. We have been on enough trips that we KNOW that feeling, and so, seeing that day, that plan, on the list of stuff, almost gives us that feeling.

To me, this is one of the downfalls of the new level of planning that is pretty much required for a WDW trip. At the end of the spreadsheet, the pulsing glaring element .... the unmagical express.

That being said, most of that goes away the day we arrive :) though it does rear its head again a couple days before we depart.

I'm with you, OP. It helps me to plan another trip - WDW or cruise.

Just a thought: Price out the Jan. Caribbean cruise prices, for you and your spouse, for 2016. I.e., look at the prices now for mid and late Jan. 2015 - even with airfare, without the constrictions of school or anyone else's schedules, you and DH/DW can do airfare and a Princess cruise for a very modest price. As long as you book airfare at least 30 days before (maybe do Southwest, into FLL for ports in FLL or MIA, for the no change fee), you can get 'last minute' cruises for so little. Just a thought - it gets my mind around the idea that while vacations may be different in the future, there will be vacations and they will be fun to plan and be on.

Enjoy EVERY second!! Sit back a moment each day and take it all in!! What a Blessing to have your large family all together making memories!! :grouphug:

Best wishes!! :goodvibes

I definitely understand the feeling. It happens to me often on vacations. Especially on Disney trips where I've planned everything. On our last vacation to DW, it was all I could think about. It definitely put a damper on my enjoyment of the vacation. :sad2:

I will say, I've noticed that the trips where it doesn't happen are those where my mind was preoccupied with something else. In my case, it was runDisney events happening during our stay.

So that would be my advice. Find something else to think about (ex. work, other family event, something happening during the vacation). By the time you're done with whatever else you were focusing on, you realize you're now going (or are already) on vacation and can fully enjoy it without being able to ruminate on the vacation itself! :goodvibes

So try to do something to take your mind off of the trip, and let it just happen. It's the old "live in the moment" advice, I guess. :)

I feel this way every trip. So much anticipation, preparation and expectation. The moment when you are finally there and all together will be the best because it's all ahead of you. That's when you want to stop.......and say, "Ah...I'm a lucky, lucky man ". Enjoy!

That normally hits me on the last two days of the trip...and then when we are home...just got back last week, and I feel so bored not planning...our next trip will have to wait as DD is going into high school and we just don't see taking her out of school anymore then, and with band, her summers are even going to be impacted (so no late August trip for us).

Already planned the next pre-Christmas week trip for 2019...seems sooooo long, planning now would be silly.

Despite all my planning ahead of time, I spend a lot of my day at DW planning. :upsidedow So if you're anything like me....the real planning has only just begun. :rotfl: Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

I so agree with you on this! After months of planning, whether for a Disney trip, a trek around the world, or even a wedding, days seem to fly by and before you know it... :sad1:

So enjoy every single moment, and go to bed really late every night so your days seem longer! :thumbsup2 (of course, you'll also have to get up early every morning for this option to work! You can always catch up on missed sleep after you get home!) :lmao:

I think that it's perfectly normal, I get a little bummed out as soon as we start checking in to the resort and I see others checking out. But it reminds me to take my time to enjoy every moment. :thumbsup2. And I always get the most out of our trips. Have a wonderful vacation.

Nope, I just start getting a little bummed half way through the trip and that feeling grows until it's over.

If it helps any, the most fun I've ever had on a Disney trip was with my two kids as young adults. Try to enjoy every minute.
