Leaving today. Can You Help? Richmond Traffic?

Hi Everyone! Hoping you can help me out. We are leaving on our vacation this afternoon and will be driving from Mass. to SC..

We were originally leaving tomorrow and taking the inland route but are now leaving this afternoon and going 95. We would like to get past DC and Richmond and then stop for the night. BUT...we are not night people and I am not sure if we will get that far. If we stop in Fredericksburg and leave around 9am tomorrow, how bad will the traffic be by Richmond?

I am planning on stopping south of Richmond, but if we wind up leaving later than we want, we may not be able to get this far.

Any advice is really appreciated!

If it's during the day you can hop on I295 which bypasses richmond.. I usually go this way unless it's 2 in the morning.. then I just go straight down 95.
