Leaving the garage door open enough so cat could come and go

Not really. When the door is all the way down the springs are at full tension so anything less would actually be less stress on the mechanicals. As long as only your cat takes oppertunity to come and go as they please, it isn't a big deal.

I don't believe so. My friend does this all the time.

Over an extended period of time it may have some negligble affect on the cables and such--but when we got our door installed we were not advised against this.

Now as far as the can't. I will warn you that if you have kitty food--that other little critters may be coming for visits in your garage as well. So that is the only thing to be careful of.

Might make for a road kill cat, like a roofing shingle. :confused3

Or lunch for the neighbors dog.

Why don't you install a pet door. We have one in our garage door for out cats and it's great. :wave2:

My dd used to keep the garage door open out of laziness. She was to lazy to push the button to close it. A week later we had 2 possums (sp?) in there. They wouldn't get out no matter what we did. We finally had to put traps down. Took me along time to go into that garage after that.

We did that for years when I was growing up...didn't hurt the cat or the garage door....but one time a stray cat ended up in our garage.

Shouldn't hurt the door, but I would be more concerned with what other animals can get into your house. pirate:

If the cat can come and go, you might get other critters coming in as well.
