We have a lil yorkie named Rex and I hate leaving him behind.Does anyone have a pet they leave behind and with whom.Rex stays home and Grandma comes here :cutie:

We have two cats we leave behind. We have used a reputable pet service in our home and last year we used one of my sons very trustworthy friend (who was very happy to make a lot of extra money before Christmas came around).

We were gone for 29 days this winter and I was very fortunate that one of my employees was willing to come by and take care of them. (we have 3 cats, 2 are fifteen years old and one is 1 1/2 yrs old)

She took very good care of them, fed them well, gave the one cats his meds every other day and when I got back, I had the cleanest house ever. (She is a maid at our motel)

My cats loved her and she went by every day, 2 times a day. I paid her $400 for the 4 weeks. She was very happy to get this as it was right at X-mas time.

It's important to find someone you trust.

Hi! We had to leave our adorable Golden Retriever, Hendrix, while at WDW last year (September of 07). It was hard!

We adore our vet and chose to leave him there (they have a small kennel for patients that need it, not those that are sick, it is in the same building as the vet, just completely seperate).

I knew he was in good hands, but it was still hard! Except for Labor Day week-end, he was the only dog there and boy did they spoil him! Everytime I called to check on him (and believe me I did LOL) one of the two main young ladies there would tell me something he did (some cute story or trick)! :goodvibes We got him a new Kong treat ball, a can of Kong peanut butter flavored "goop" to use in it, and a box of Scooby Snacks to have while there (the SS were to share with friends he met/boarded with).

We were gone a total of 14 days! We were thrilled to see him and he was thrilled to see us! He did "kiss" one of the girls (staff) there goodbye though, when she brought his belongings to us! :)

He will stay there again for our 2008 trip. I hate to leave him BUT it is easier when you absolutely know they are in good hands!

I hate having to leave my beagle behind. I love the 2 cats we have but it's not the same. My beagle is my buddy. My niece and her daughter always come to live at our home when we go on vacation. I can't board Flo or take her to anyone else's home. I took her to stay with my dad for a weekend once and it traumatized her. My poor dad just kept saying "I don't know what to do, she wouldn't play, she wouldn't sleep, she just sat at the door and cried." Broke my heart.

So things work out great now. Flo is happy. My neice and daughter love to stay with the pets and I have no worries about any of them. :cool1:

our dogs are the reason our entire family cannot go at the same time. Everyone takes turns, we are all dog people and there are many.

When we went to WDW for the first time, we left our cat home for 6 days with alot of food and water. But since then we leave him with our family friend. He was fine but just really lonely

Our vet recommended a great kennel a few years ago. (FOr those of you on LI, it's the Pet Wellness Center just on the LIE service road in Plainview.)

So, for the 6 or 7 days a year we're not home, Koko goes to the "puppy motel."

This trip our almost one year old chocolate labrador retriever "Finnegan" is going to the kennel we use all the time. Our older cocker spaniel "Ruffian" is going to stay with my youngest son and his girlfriend. We just hope her cats are ready for "Ruffie" he won't bother them but it may be a bit of a culture shock for them. :confused3 And our kitty, "Jessie" (who is nine lbs of attitude) gets the premier treatment with the neighbor girl coming in after school to take care of her.

Our puppy usually stays with Grammy and Pop-Pop; however this summer they are coming with us!!:scared1: Now we have to find somewhere to board her. Wish we didn't have that extra expense and I'm sure she won't be too happy about that.

I leave my yellow lab with my Mother when she is able to take the dog, otherwise I take her to a cageless kennel near us. She loves the place, being able to play all day with the other dogs and best of all they have daily swimming with their indoor pool. It's like heaven on earth to my dog!!!

As much as I HATE leaving her, I know she has fun and with their 24 hour webcam I can check on her from wherever I am.

We have a cat, Cleo, who stays with my brothers family while we are on vacation. We keep their cat, Duke, when they go on vacation. It works well for both our families.

We have a black lab named Bill T. Dog (the T stands for "the") and a cat named Kittles VonPurzalot that we have to leave behind with my DSis. Aunt Jana comes to our house to stay while we are gone so they don't have many changes. Our DDog is so lazy and laid back (a combo of Eeyore and Yellow Dog from the movie "Funny Farm") he wouldn't care where he was at, but Kitty is prissy and prefers home.
Anyway, We miss them when we are away. The worst was during our HM, we were in Tahiti for 3 weeks and SoCal for another week. Back then we had another dog, Goobie Magoo, but she has since passed :sad1: , we missed them SOOOOOO much during that time. I'll never go away for that long again.

I have a 6 year old cocker spaniel named Jasper and my parents take great care of him. Unfortunately, he was sick right before I left and even though he was eating better when I left, he would hardly eat at all for them. My dad's retired and came over during the day to sit and let the dogs play (my brother lives with me and has a 110 pound flat coat retriever mix). Then my mom would pick up both dogs after work and take them to their house until she was ready for bed then would bring both dogs back with her to my house and sleep in my bed so that Jasper would be more comfortable with a familiar environment. Plus, she had to give him his arthritis pills and had a heck of a time with that.

Yes, I bought them both a bunch of souvenirs for a thank you. :)

We have two female Samoyeds, Klondike and Snow, 70 lbs. each, and a male Komondor, Stormy, 100 lbs. Then add two female calico cats, Pixel and Patch, and we have a lot of animals. The only solution for us is to find a house-sitter, who is really an animal sitter. We have been fortunate the last five years to have the daughter of a good friend stay at our house; she has known all our animals all of their lives and we feel very comfortable entrusting them to her care. We pay her very well ($70/night) to make sure she wants to come back and do it again.

We used to have two Great Pyrenees (150 and 165 lbs.) The two times we left them at a kennel one of them got a paw cut on the top of the chain link fence (he jumped too high) and one got sick. No more kennels for us!

We have two small chihuahuas, male and female and recently adopted a female white german shepperd which is young and full of energy, leaving all with my nephew who has been staying with us often and the dogs are very used to him. My very spoiled older chihuahua "Cujo" does not do well with strangers so leaving him at a kennel is out for us.

WE HAVE TWO DOGS BEAGLE BRADY 7 YEARS OLD STAYING WITH PARENTS AND YELLOW LAB MANDY 2 YEARS OLD STAYING WITH FRIEND. HOPE ALL GOES WELL FOR THEM AND CARETAKERS WHILE WE ARE GONE. WE HAVE A HOME AWAY FROM HOME AT JELLYSTONE PARK IN THE SUMMER AND THEY ALWAYS GO WITH US. SO THIS IS VERY NEW TO US.

We have a very large golden retriever (115 lbs) who is going to be 11 years old in June and is our "couch potato" dog, and a cat. It is so hard to leave them :sad1: We have a boarding place that is very good if our pet sitter can't stay. The pet sitter is great and we trust him implicitly. We still call and make sure our babies are okay several times during a week long trip though. It's so hard to leave our loved ones behind and we always make sure they get lots of  when we get back, especially the dog - the cat wants a few hugs then he's off doing whatever it is he does during the day. But the dog is a velcro dog anyway and he's especially so for a week or more once we get home so it makes me feel sooooo bad for leaving him. But we both eventually get over it and the next year when it's time to get the camping gear out to head to the mountains, I do so even though I feel guilty. I'm so pathetic - :rolleyes1

We were at WDW the 13 - 17 of March. We left our yorkiepoo, Chloe, with friends. I was nervous about leaving her. As you know, we all have routes and they do also. But she did wonderful. I think it was more stressful for us than her.

Okay, I must be the only CRAZY one!!! I couldn't stand leaving my dog home (Shiba Inu) so,....I'm bringing her with me. I rented a home off-site and will take an afternoon break to let the kids swim and rest. During this time I will take Ginger for a walk and let her play. Hopefully, get her tired out so we can head back to the parks at night.
