The boat ride over is awesome! We love it! The ride itself is maybe 10 minutes or so. (wild guess) The wait to get a launch depends on how many folks have the same idea at the same time. We usually head over for dinner after MK closes. We wander the shops on Main Street and then walk down to the dock. We've been lucky with our slow exit strategy and have never had to wait for more than one launch, even with Covid spacing. It's maybe a five minute walk from the dock to the restaurant at the other end. I think it might be possible to wait around too long and wind up with a bus being the only option but so far we've avoided that.
Several years ago we waited 30-45 minutes to get on the MK to WL launch. We had just missed one, then the next one arrived later than expected, then they needed to unload someone in a wheelchair or ECV, then we boarded and had to wait while they loaded someone in a wheelchair or ECV. I had allowed an hour to travel; we barely made our ADR. Now I allow 90 minutes — I’d rather arrive at WL early and roam around that beautiful lobby!
Expect at least 45 minutes. With fewer people on the boat, it could be longer. It is a really nice ride over, well work it.
It really depends how long the line is and how long you have to wait for the next boat.
As a Disney vlogger found out recently, the WL/MK boats stop running at some point that is not even known by the boat operators, so if you have an evening reservation for WCC, have a backup plan for departing the resort. His problem was his car was parked at TTC & was told by the boat operators that boats ran until 9pm but when they finished dinner at 8pm, boats already stopped running, no buses from WL were going to TTC since MK closed at 6pm. He ended up having to pay for an Uber to take him to the TTC parking lot. @bamamom suggested that if you're trying to get back to a Disney resort, use the WL bus to Disney Springs then DS to your resort. Of course an Uber straight to your resort will definitely be faster after a long day.
I agree with giving a lot more time for the boat transportation! With social distancing, some boats only fit 3-4 parties & I don't know how quickly Disney sends the next boat in the time of covid.
