Is it a big inconvenience to leave MK to eat at Kona? I'm thinking of trying for an 11:00 to 11:30 am breakfast (which time is better???). The park opens @ 9:00. Would you want to leave the park that soon after opening, then return after breakfast? TIA :)

PS: I know I'm full of questions the last few days, but I've never planned a trip with little notice & I'm scrambling to find places to eat.

I might do it with the 11:30 ADR. You could use that as an early lunch too, if you wanted to.

Okay, I just called & booked Kona for 11:10 am. It was the latest time I could get it. What do you guys think?

I don't think it would be that bad, we have done it before. But it was for lunch at CR,so it was the first stop on the monorail line, Poly is the third stop. You would probally have to leave at 10:50 or so. There is also a boat to Poly that might take a shorter amount of time. And when you go back it take alot less time.

The boat goes to GF then the Poly. If you're not stuck on Kona, consider the GF Cafe you can get B or L there.

We did an 8am at MK then a 1 something ADR in Epcot, we were starving by then.

It's not too big of a hassle, though my lazy self would just sleep a little later and go the park after brunch myself. You just won't be able to get too much done in 1.5 hours, and having to stand in security/admission lines each time is a beating for that short of a time.

BUT if you've never done the MK, or don't get to WDW often, I can see where that 1.5 or so is precious time you don't want to waste.

if you get to MK at 9, that leaves you about 90 minutes to do something since you need to allow enough time to walk out of the park, take the boat/monorail over, and get to kona to check in. so realistically, that is 2-3 things to do in the MK. Once you are done, if you head back to MK you are there during the busiest time of the day when everybody else is there

you do need to leave plenty of time to get there. At least 30-45 minutes. Even though the poly is close, once you leave the turnstiles, either monorail or boat. If you just missed one, it is a 20-30 minute wait for the next.

For me, I would ust eat in the park

Keep asking, there are lots of opinions and different experiences to draw upon.

Are you traveling as adults or with kids? Might be hard to get kids out of the park too:)

I think you will be fine with the 11:10 breakfast. Here is what I would do:

Arrive at MK early so that you are there for rope drop right at 9:00. That way, going through security and the ticket turnstiles will be taken care of prior to 9:00.

I would then leave the park about 10:40. You can take either monorail to the Poly (resort monorail stops at the Poly and the express monorail stops at the TTC and you can walk from there to the Poly). Thus, the wait time for the transportation should not be too long.

This will give you 100 minutes in MK, which is plenty of time to do several rides (especially as the park will probably be at its least crowded at that time of the day). Also, when you are done with breakfast, you should be able to return to the park fairly quickly (30 minutes or less). Although you will have to go through security and the ticket turnstiles again, that should not take very long at that time of day.

I dont think it is that big a deal...I would do that if MK had an EMH am hours and I could get alot of rides in and then leave...otherwise I would not bother going to breakfast that late....I would go to Kona at 8am and then go to MK

We usually eat at Chef Mickey's and find it easy to go to a monorail resort for a meal because it is just so convienient.

I agree with MickeyMicki. I would do Kona brunch on an EMH day and enjoy the park when it's least crowded. On a day when the park opens at 9 I would do breakfast at 8.

I would do it on an emh morning and take the 11:30 ress. Kona =Tonga Toast

Thanks for all the input. You guys are great! :grouphug: I'll try to address some of your points individually. If I miss something, let me know.

EMH - We're staying offsite, & won't be going for EMH.

Why Kona? - I'm not actually stuck on anything. We're planning late in the game, & I keep getting shot down for a CP package. For other meals, I'm trying to come up with places & times I have a better chance of getting. The CP package rejection is bad enough. :p That said, I'm not sure my DH would like Wave's breakfast. He's not into healthy eating, even though you'd never know it. He's a skinny-mini.

Breakfast before park opening - Our hotel's breakfast buffet is nasty. :scared: I'd try for an early onsite breakfast, but I figured they were probably booked up by now. Again, with the rejection thing. ;)

MK experience - We live an hour away, & have been to the parks too many times to count. Oddly, we've never left to go to one of the monorail resorts to eat. That's where you guys come in. :tiptoe:

Why get to the parks early everyday? - Now that my DS is older, I have a hard time getting my DH & DS to WDW. They prefer the parks about 15 min. north. I'm trying to see what I can, while I'm there.

Who's in our party? - My DH, DS(16) & me

Security - We don't usually have a problem with security. I load my DH's pockets with all our stuff & don't carry a bag.

If you guys have anything to add now that I've address these issues, please feel free. :flower3:

I strongly suggest you do indeed consider the Grand Floridian Cafe. It gets a lot of positive reviews and is somewhat off the beaten path, so chances are you'll be able to get and ADR. The GFC serves B, L and Dinner.
