Leaving in 8 weeks and SWA STILL has not lowered...

Their prices.. they are still charging $145 for the way back (December 15th) I was thinking it would be a bit lower by now.. this is crazy!
Also I am still looking for a better deal on a rental car, everything seems higher than I was hoping it would be.

Anyone else in the same boat as me waiting for a lower price?

I know that last year it was approx 2 weeks before a flight that the prices had gone down. But if they are booked up, why would they bother.

As for rental car, I have one ressie that the price is in the $30.00 range per day and when I go to change it, it goes way up to the $80.00 range! I keep the one I have and work around it!

Yes I check the ding fares all the time, they are only in November so far, this week it is Nov 15 but I have seen Nov 20th but that was a few weeks ago.. nothing in Dec yet. Trust me I am checking everytime I hear the ding and I have not missed one yet.

Me too !!! They only started within about the past week having DINGS with mid-November regularly as a travel date. I'm hoping to fly home on Sat Dec 16th, but would consider the Friday or the Sunday if it would make a great difference in price. There was a JetBlue $59 deal the other day, but you had to change planes at JFK I think it would be cool to fly into NYC, and I understand JetBlue has their own terminal pretty much since NYC is their hub, but I just have a problem with flying into/out of NYC around Christmas time. I'd go AirTran and change planes in Atlanta before New York. We still have 2 months ... we still have 2 months ... we still have 2 months. Pixie Dust Powers Unite!

I really thought we'd have seen something on their Tues/Fri newsletters ... I got my Dec 9th flight for $54 in early August.

I am also waiting for a lower price on my return flight. About 2 or 3 weeks ago I got a DING for my flight there went from almost $600 to $318 for the 6 of us. Already got a credit on my credit card.....love southwest.

Now just hoping for something on my return flight. They just started dings for November so I hope to get something soon.

Mousy, I am in the same boat as you...

I have booked the kids and I at the $54 rate to go down in December (the Aug 1 sale!!) but still have to get DH down mid Dec and then get us all home early January. Do not want to book at $145!! We couldn't even use credit since no more SWA trips planned in the next 12 months.

Also, have been watching the $59 jetblue fares (through JFK) but am currently holding a credit with SWA that needs to be used up. So that is why Jetblue makes no sense to me since I need to use the SWA credit.

Everything else for this trip is planned, just have to work on the airfare.

A January DING won't help since we will be in Florida most of December when the January DINGS are happening. So really waiting for one of the Tues/Fri specials or ideally some sort of Florida sale.

Does anyone know when and if in the fall historically speaking does SWA offer a Florida sale of some sort? That would help us all out I'm sure.

Did you check the thrifty magicard code for a car rental (code is on mousesavers) ? You need a van don't you?? We just need a regular car. I have been checking rental rates faithfully since Feb and this gave us the best rate.

I like this thread. Thanks for starting it. It makes me feel I am not the only one waiting for Dec/Jan!!!

Perhaps someone can post on this thread if they come across a good SWA Dec price???

Thanks Riu Girl, yes I have checked mousesavers codes and the best for my dates with Dollar is kiss2 and that is $280 alamo is $417.00 and National is $434.00 but I did get Thrifty with Wmrt at $235. but I was hoping to get it lower than that for my van and I would love it onsite.
Thanks for the suggestions, I am going away next weekend and I hope to get a ding before that instead of when I am away and I may miss it, which would suck big time!

Have you rented from Thrifty before? It is offsite. We did in 2004 and it was NO BIG DEAL. The shuttle van comes constantly to MCO and then you just have a real quick ride to Thrifty. Painless.

They did try and get us to buy the insurance but we had a photocopy of our personal auto policy (that includes a rider for rentals) so it was fine. If you do end up going with thrifty, sign up for the blue chip and then you can pass the lines.

yeah, I know about missing a DING. I was at girl guide camp last August and missed the Dec one. But that was back in the day when DING was different and the same flights DINGed again the next month for Dec. Do you have a close friend/relative who could check DING for you? I doubt December DINGS will be out next weekend yet anyway.

This is scary for me as well! I have been given the "challenge" of finding CHEAP flights for my parents & myself and while the $54 down is wonderful $145 bak home is very freaky

Nope we drive down so no flight cost dilemas at all our drive there and back will be just a tad more than what your return flight for 1 person isapprox 210 US return and driving while there for gas. Then no rental car cost makes it even cheaper. Some friends of ours booked Spirit out of Detroit for 49 each way.

Driving is not an option for us, My DH does not get paid for time off, so would lose pay on the time it takes to drive down, even at $145 it is cheaper than driving for us.
I got $26 each way. last year to fly so I guess I got spoiled with it!

Please help got a great airfare going down but still need to book returning. No deal 145 right now. Should I book now and hope for a ding rate? I am travelling on Sundays and havent noticed any dings for Sunday. Iam starting to get really worried about airfare considering next week I am 45 days out. Wow scary! What should I do?

Doesn't SWA usually offer some sort of BIG Florida sale in Oct or NOv for late fall / early winter dates??? I sure hope so. I think I remember seeing this type of sale the last two years? Perhaps someone could confirm.

On December 2nd 2004 I booked for January 26 - February 2 2005 for $26.98 each way.. I did not see it that low again.. now THAT would be awesome again!

I could be wrong but I thought last fall (Oct or Nov), SWA had a Florida sale for Dec/Jan flights at $49.

Perhaps someone else could confirm this information so I know I wasn't dreaming!!

I hope that this sale happens again soon.
On Tuesdaythe destination of the week was Ft. Lauderdale, but they didn't discount Dec/Jan which I thought was odd. In the past, when a destination was on sale, I thought the fligths went on sale for the rest of SWAs schd.

I really don't want to pay $145 one way each for this Dec/Jan!!!!

Hopefully this month there will be a sale of some sort. Or a DING, although I hate being tied to the computer waiting for a ding. I would prefer an extended sale of some sort, even if the price is higher.

We got flights last December for $45 each way ... 2 of us flew return with all taxes included for $192 US.

I'm not holding my breath for a $49, but even a $79 would make me ecstatic right now.

I don't mean to sound fecicious, but if this is the way Southwest is going to be, why not stick it to them and book your flight on Air Tran or Jet Blue or anything cheaper???

There's no guaranteee they will drop their price or that you will get a Ding for your dates.
