Ive given some serious thought,,,,,though I cant convince hubby...of buying into DVC....My problem is...(I could pay cash if only i could convince hubby, grr...) I have the down payment but not sure if they will sell to me in my name only...on paper i can only show a monthly retirement and I know I cant use hubbys income unless he signs (which he wont) so even though I can well afford it...(and my name is on bank accounts w/fairly large balances ) on paper Im not sure Disney would think so. Ill be arriving this Sunday so Im just trying to get some advice/info.

Anyone ever get turned down? Would they be more likely to approve if you have your payments directly taken from your account? Im thinking of 150 or 200 pts and I believe the only place you can buy them now is bcv if Im not mistaken. Anyone comments would be appreciated :) :jester:  Mae

Auto pay should not be a problem. Yes, BCV is the only thing on sale by Disney right now, but there are resales for OKW, BWV, and sometimes VWL at the Timeshare Store.

Don't give up hope on hubby! My DH was not very interested in DVC, until we went on the tour. I had looked over papers and video at home, and he had no interest, and thought it was too much money. Well.......We took the DVC tour and signed on the line at the end of the tour. Very painless, that was Feb of '01. We are just completing a resale purchase and it will more than double our points! Needless to say DH loves DVC!

As for applying in your name only, if you and hubby have joint bank accounts, I would think it would count in your favor when applying for credit. I am not sure, hopefully some of the experts out here will reply!!!

Good Luck, Have a fun trip!!!!

I'd give it a shot and not worry! For one thing, these days a retirement income is a lot more stable than a wage earners. For another, it's not like they can lose - they have possession of the property. They don't have to chase you across the country to repossess as if you'd bought a car. You default, they just sell it again! Besides Disney's pretty credit friendly. The worst I've heard is that they asked someone to make a bigger down payment, and it sounds like you can handle that.

By the way we put the dues on autopay, and you don't even have to think about it.

I don't know about getting approval but I just wanted to let you know I have a dh who said he would never join DVC (he has a job in finance and thinks it doesn't make sense). We just closed on an OKW resale (it helped that we got a great deal). Anyway, I would have never thought it possible but he finally saw how much it meant to me. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.:)
