Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

Help him fill out the paperwork to move into a non-wellness apartment!

Okay, that's not very good. But I'll think of something. ;)

Kate, he is already in non-Wellness at the Commons. Still waiting for some more ideas. I know you can come up with something.

They let him into a non-wellness when he was under 21? Wow...I didn't think they allowed that!

I'm really having trouble coming up with ideas. One of my friends turned 21 when we were down there, and we took her drinking around the world at Epcot. But that's not something I'd want to do with my parents, I don't think.

Bahama Breeze is always fun, though he might have gotten sick of it by now. That's where I had my first (legal) drink, with my parents.

Of course, taking him to a park with a birthday button, especially if it happens to be a park where lots of his friends are working that day, is always fun. (And, depending on your friends, can be pretty embarrassing sometimes, too!)

I'll keep thinking. I know there's good stuff, I just can't think of it right now!

SoonerKate, i hope you don't think that i forgot about you but i was finally able to get a hold of a copy of last weeks main street diary for you... just im me whenever you're online and i'll send it to you

First let me warn you all that the Prince of Thieves is now legal

I think we provided him great memories for his 21st. We did not get to OKW until around midnight last wed. DS was waiting in the room for us since he had checked us in earlier in the day! Since he would not be at home for his Bday I had done a video with almost 40 people from his life to say Happy bday. We then talked until around 2.

We took him for breakfast Thursday morning at the CP at MK with Tigger and Pooh. He had his birthday button, Thanks JK1, and even was in the parade around the restaurant. We then did Mickey's PHilharmagic and Buzz to get our picture taken. We then took him parasailing at the CR. What a blast! He did not want to come down. That night we did MNSSHP. Also a blast. With his button on several from the parade came out of it to say Happy Birthday!! Including Snow White! It has been a good while since we helped close a park!

The next day we had lunch with a lead Imagineer in the Bamboo Room of the Brown Derby. There were only 7 of us and we had a two hour wonderful lunch. He is an amaziing person! DS got a limited edition plate signed by the Imagineer! I think it was his favorite thing to do. Later that afternoon we got to ride the Breathless at the Y&B. We got about a 45min ride from Epcot to MGM and back. A really cool boar. It was cool to run rings around the ferry boats!!! That night we did the haunted hay ride! A great experience.

Sunday we did the F&W Festival before he had to go to work.

Bottom line is he mom and I thought the 21st bday should be one of memories not things. I know we have great memories and I think he does as well!

I am sure he has wonderful memories of that day, Yes Dear. It sounds like a wonderful time was had by all!

You won't believe what my daughter sprung on me today. She has been talking of applying in the spring to do the WDWCP again next fall. She has been talking of doing it a second time since she got home in May. Today, she tells me that she and a friend from the program are applying for this coming spring! :earseek: We'll see how that goes.

Ha! I told my mom I wanted to do it again because I was thinking of applying for an AI, and she just looked at me and said, "Please just graduate. Please."

So I'm holding off until the semester after I graduate. Maybe.

My daughter wants to do the AI also. But that is in a couple years. Right now she just wants to do the regular program again.

My daughter wants to apply for an AI also for the Spring. Recruiting is coming to campus next month and she is a campus rep.

We also will be moving to Florida. I sign the contract on my house today. We have a buyer. Closing is Dec. 15. Not the best time for a move but just think I can go to WDW anytime I want. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc ::earsgirl: :earsgirl: :bounce: :bounce:

For those of us more mature (physically not mentally) DS has told me he knows a lady there on the college program that is in her mid 50's

There may be hope for us yet!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I have talked to some persons over age 40-50 that were there on the WDWCP. Guess I better go find some class to register for! :)

Sleeping Beauty, congrats on being selected for the Spring WDWCP! I hope you have a wonderful experience.

jk1 - wanted to let you know that the birthday button was a huge success, it brought tons of attention, moreso at the Magic Kingdom than anywhere else. Also need to know if you would like to have it back. I can ship to you if need be. I understand there is a different birthday button at EPCOT, but we never got around to asking for one.

Also wanted to let you know how nice it was to see you again and meet the folks you had with you, including your lovely daughter. Did you by chance run into DS over at ASMO on your last day there? He is back at SAB now, and very glad to be back. He just prefers it there to the other locations he has been deployed to.

When is your next trip?

RweTHEREyet, no need to return the birthday button. Prince may keep it as a remembrance of his great birthday day!

It was great running into you and YesDear around the resort! I am sorry we never got a chance to see the Prince. My daughter was disappointed, too. Our last day there was just way too busy to get back to the resort to find him.

My next trip? Looks like January for an in-between semester trip for the college kids. Tell Prince that he should extend another semester! ;)

I just got back from Disney. My friend's daughter is on the CP, she is working at The Great Movie Ride and is loving it. It was so weird knowing the person doing the ride! To say the least, I was like a proud Mom! As soon as she can be back down there, she will be! After hearing from her and reading all these board messages, I'm sure most everyone who goes into the program will enjoy and learn from it.

I know DS aka Prince of Thieves has found the experience rewarding. If you approach the program with the right frame of mind you will have a blast.

Of the CP'ers I have seen that did not make it, my observation is they thought they were going for a 6 month vacation at WDW. The program is very hard work. No matter what role you have. But you will have the opportunity to see what kind of person you are or want to be.

You are also not there to make money! Some of those on the program , used the low pay as the excuse to leave.

I do not mean to be negative in anyway. Just make sure you go with your eyes and mind open.

If you have not as yet gone to http://www.wdwcpinfo.com/ You will be able to meet some of your future friends online and get to know them. Prince of Thieves had a group of friends from online before he got there!

CONGRATS AGAIN!

Hey everyone, remember me...... it's Marla. Teaching is making it hard for me to mess around on the boards, but I miss all of you.

Congrats, Sleeping Beauty. How exciting to be going on the program.

Well, next week I'll be at WDW for the Soap Opera Weekend. This is DD's favorite thing and it will be our third year at it. I am so excited. DD is thinking that she would love to extend her time in the program. I think that now is the time rather than doing this after college. Only problem is........ does Disney offer medical insurance coverage? My coverage for DD must show that she is a full time student, and being at WDW, she does not have that status. Anyone know anything about this? Wouldn't want her to be without coverage. This has been a great time and if she wants to do it, I would be in favor of her applying, but I have that question. She was going to check into it. Anyone going to DW in December?? DS and I will be there Dec. 22-29. Come on friends, where are you going to be? Marla

Hi Marla! Nice to see you again. That teaching job is sure keeping you busy!

Your daughter can get medical insurance through the WDWCP. They have a program with Forte Insurance, if I have remembered the name right. Have her ask someone in the Vista Clubhouse or someone else in charge of the WDWCP. They should have the brochure and then you can call for the rates and application.

I don't think I'll be down til January now. Have fun on your trips!

Welcome back to the land of the fun!!! How is your mom? And of course TT????

I had to chuckle with your post! Go back in this wonderful thread and read your first few posts about your DD first few weeks. Who da thunk!!!!

We will not be there for soap weekend but will be there in December when you will be there.

If JK1 says WDWCP has a health policy available that is probably the best for her. There are short term policies also available in the market. They are designed for college graduates and people between jobs short trem. However, if WDWCP offers one that probably will be best.

Great to hear from you and we will have to get together in December!

DS by the way is on a plane as we speak coming home for the weekend. His first and probably only trip before he comes home! Of course he is coming to see friends not us. We may get to see him on Saturday!

The WDWCP policy program is a short-term program, and from what I've heard (from people who have used it), it's not very good. I know one friend of mine had major, major headaches when she had to deal with the company -- they didn't pay the stuff they were supposed to pay, and they gave her all kinds of trouble when she got really sick and had to go to the hospital. The easiest thing to do is to find a way of being a full-time student somewhere. (It doesn't necessarily have to be at her actual school!)

Marla, have Mir call her advisor at school and find out about co-op opportunities. Usually, they'll allow you to be "officially" enrolled for full-time if you're in a co-op program. If that won't work, have her call or contact Central Michigan University or UNC - Greensboro. They both offer programs for credit, and she can register with them as a visiting student and then transfer the credit to her actual school.

She can also look into correspondence courses, distance learning, or internet courses if she wants to keep her full-time student status.

She'll probably have to call her advisor at school anyways, since sometimes being gone for more than one semester requires more forms to sign and hoops to jump through. Have her call whoever coordinates internships and co-ops at her school, and then maybe her academic advisor. Honestly, that's the first thing I'd suggest.
