Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

My friends and I ordered a complete dinner from Publix. I don't remember how much it was, but it was pretty good. Youdo definitely have to order it early, though. We ordered from the Publix right by the Commons and Chatham.

I just wanted to tell you guys that after reading all these posts about the college program, I've decided to apply. My presentation is on the 17th of oct. Does anyone have any advice for me or can anyone tell me what to expect either at the persentation or the interview? Thanks

Ms. Beauty of Sleep:
My advice to you when you go to the presentation and interview is just be yourself. Talk to the CP reps that are there and ask them questions you may have about the program. Ask them about what their role was and what it was like to work at their location. Also, talk to the presenter/interviewer. It is just my theory that the more open and casual, but at the same time professional, you are of a speaker, the better your chances are of getting in.

When you are in your interview people say that it helps to have a resume, but I did just fine without one. Take your time when answering the questions and be supportive of others in your group interview. If there is a specific location that you really enjoy and would like to work at then tell your interviewer why you like that specific location. If you are accepted there is a greater chance of you getting that spot if it is available.

Those are just some of many hints that could be shared with the presentation/interview process. Good luck with everything!

JAM

PS. Your presentation just so happens to be the day after my 21st b-day

TxSleepingBeauty: Your presentation will be about an hour long, and will consist of a powerpoint/video presentation, talking from your area recruiter, and some comments from alumni and your campus reps. Each of the reps/alumni will share when they went on their program and where they worked. If one of their work locations seems interesting, talk to them about it after the presentation! I've had tons of people come and talk to me about working at the ESPN Club. You will have an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation.

When you get there, be early! You will have to sign in with your campus reps. You might want to find the recruiter (They'll be the one wearing a WDW College Recruiting shirt and Disney nametag) and introduce yourself. Remember, first impressions count! Talk to the people around you, find out why they're there and what got them interested in the program. Your recruiter and their trip partner are probably watching everyone in the room to find out what kind of interaction is going on, and who seems to be the kind of person that they're looking for.

Be prepared to interview right after the presentation -- you may have an opportunity, and it shows your interest and enthusiasm that you're ready to go. Apply online (http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com) before your presentation, and bring the printout with you to the presentation. You can bring a resume, but I know just as many people who got in and didn't bring one as those who did. I didn't have one, and it still worked out fine for me.

Don't be nervous about the interview! Really, don't. You'll interview with one, possibly two other people and it's very casual. Nothing to be worried about. Like Prince of Thieves said, be supportive of those you're interviewing with. Don't be afraid to interact with them as well as the recruiter.

It doesn't really matter what you wear, but the upper-end of business casual is nice. I've seen people interview in everything from full-on suit and tie to jeans and a t-shirt.

Above all, be yourself. Go in there ready to have a good time -- they really do try to make the presentation fun, by asking trivia questions (They almost always ask the name of the two cruise ships!) and handing out prizes, that sort of thing. Have fun, and good luck! PM or e-mail me (admin (at) disneycp.net) anytime.

thanks for the advice guys, I have some other questions if you don't mind answering....were there any older students when you did it? I'm not typical college age, about 25, I haven't been in a hurry to get through school, have taken some other opportunities, will this count against me do you think?

There are quite a few older college students down there. My friend David was 29 when he did the program, and there were a lot of 24-25 year olds when I was down. (Fall 2002)

Your age won't work against you at all. It may even work in your advantage as you're probably more experienced and mature than most 18-21 year olds away from home or college for the first time. Especially depending on what your other opportunities were, I wouldn't worry about it at all -- play those up, too!

You have no idea how old you make me feel when you talk about the "Older" students at 25! I have shoes older than that! It has been longer than that since I started college!

DS's roommate is 26 I believe and he is having a good time. I think he has a diferent perspective on what the progarm is and does.

I agree with soonerkate though that you should go for it! If you have read this post, you know there is a group of us that are waiting for our post college program!

This sounds terrific! I think that I might look into going into the program. How about older students who are 48? Can they leave their husband and kids behind? Thanks for any input. Karen

(I well, guess I couldn't get away with this if Mirmatt appears on the margin!) Hi Guys!! DD is coming home on Sunday and going back on Tuesday morning. It will be great to see her. Just made reservations to be at DW Dec. 22-29. Anyone going?? (Not to speak of the Soap Weekend in Nov.)

I didn't mean older as in "old," just as um...above the median age of most WDWCP participants.

I talked to a friend of mine today who reminded me that we knew someone who's roommate was 57!

Mirmatt, I should be down there Dec. 22-29, depending on if my housing gets approved or not.

I will be at CBR Oct. 31-Nov 5 if anyone will be around. Flying down several days earlier and staying with my oldest daughter in Melbourne.

Also hope to scout locations for our move to the Orlando area when the house sells. Yippee.

Ahhhhh, there's hope for us yet! We should all apply at the same time. Wouldn't that be a hoot - all of us WDWCP'ers at the same time? LOL

I'll be at WDW Oct 15-21. Anyone else? I know Prince John's birthday is coming up! Who's going to help celebrate? :)

His Dad and I both are coming. jk1, I sent you an e-mail concerning that very subject a few days ago, have you received? Also wondering when and where your meet is.

I am excited about the start of the Food and Wine Festival and the MNSSHP. Have not been to either and really looking forward to both of them.

Our dates are the 15th-20th.

As posted on another thread, has anyone seen the preview on the Travel Channel for the special Disney episode to be on this Friday night at 8:00 p.m., subject is all those things you didn't know you could do at Disney, and it looks really interesting.

Another show to lookout for is on Oct 8 on the History channel at 8:00 P.M. called "Failure is Not An Option". It is hosted by astronaut Jim Lovell. And how do I know this? Some of it was taped at Mission Space and my son, the lifeguard, was used as an extra. He said that at one point he was walking immediately behind Jim Lovell when they were taping, so we are hoping to catch a glimpse of him on t.v.

watched the Travel Channel special on the undiscovered WDW. I thought it was a very good program and well worth watching, but the scary thing is I knew about everything on the program and had done them all except two or three things.

Can't you see me and DW doing the parasail thing!!! I would probably enjoy it but she would probably make me deaf from the screams and kill me for making her do it! Like could if I wanted to!!!! LOL

I thought the same thing about the program. I also knew the prices. Parasailing looked interesting but I don't ever see me doing that.

I watched the show also. And like you, knew of everything they covered. But it was still interesting. I think I will leave the parasailing to my kids. :)

DS alias Prince of Thieves is celebrating his 21st Bday coming up. He has not been specific with anything he wants to do for his day. His DM and I have racked our brains trying to think of fun things to do to him and with him on his day!

Please give me your best suggestions. Of course if it might embarass him, more the better!

As many of you know he does read this post so be as creative as possible!

I know you all have it in you, so give him your best shot! I mean idea!!!

Of cousrse he will never know what we are going to do until we get there!
