Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

So what building is PC being moved to? I can't wait!!

First my deepest apologies to anyone who booked a plane ticket for today. The new PC opens tomorrow the 24th.

Mermaidsmom, it has moved about 50 feet. A new building was just built directly behind the trailer where Cast Connections is located. It is my understanding that the two locations are merging into the new building and opening tomorrow! No more tents and no more floods or thunderstorms!!!

I am assuming one of the longest lines at WDW tomorrow will be there. You don't think they planned to open the new location on payday on purpose do you????

I am sure Marla will empathize with this chapter.

As you all know, in the last 10 days DS has been rearended by a driver and did not stop for a police report. He then had his first and hopefully only "save" at work with a 3yr old that stopped breathing. He spent all of Tuesday night, Wed morning as an extra for some commercial etc for Mission Space. When he got home yesterday, he is currently livining in the commons, he got a letter saying that the economy is improving, and they will be adding more international students and regular CP's, so Disney is reopening Chatham on a limited basis and he will be moving to Chatham or Vista in the next 10 days. He has until tomorrow to tell them his preference or he will be assigned. It appears all the american regular CP'ers will be moved out of the commons.

I believe he would rather be in Chatham, but the next twist is that there will be no bus service to Chatham, so only those with transportation can move there. He has a car his roommate does not! Chatham has some one bedroom apts but Vista does not! Decisions, Decisions, Decisions. We know this has overall been very stressfull for him. We have been trying to point out pros and cons to both. He calls us and asks out opinion, then tells his mom he has to figure it out for himself!!! DUH!

Most of his friends are at Vista, but he is not excited about 5 or 7 roommates.

I am certain things will work out, and as I have said, he is getting a great deal of life experience, but to be honest, it is wearing me out!!!

I continue to be so proud of him! He has had a very strong taste of life in the past 10 days and he is doing great! I hope he realizes there is nothing he cannot do!

And yes today is the day! New building opening at PC!

Thanks for listening!

yesdear, Ah the CP. It seems there is never a dull moment in the program. Just when things start to calm down WDW stirs them up again. I am glad to hear the economy is picking up but that sure makes it hard if he has to move. Less roommates is always a good thing, less chance for things to happen.

A moment of silence for those of us that can't get to PC to help them celebrate the Grand Opening. :( :(

Well, Yes Dear, I surely do relate to this stuff.

DD told me that there was a letter telling them that she would have to move out of her apartment between the 30th and the 6th of Aug. Four of her roommates are done at that time, and she will be moved in with others who are in the Fall Advantage....
Where do I begin????? AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I am going nuts again. Remember she was put with girls who were already bonded and she had alot of problems with how they treated her. She was looking forward to being the experienced one with a new set of cpers in Aug. That was how it was presented to her when she first came and was told that she was rooming with girls who were already there. She was told that she would have 4 new roommates in Aug. The fact that she will once again be put where kids have already bonded and she is the outsider, seems unfair again!! I told her that she should talk to someone about this and see what they can do. The only thing that might be okay is if she is put together with kids who were also in the same situation. I just don't want to see her coming into a room where the others have been there for the 2 months already. Blah, blah, blah! She says that she doesn't know where she will be until she goes on the moving day to get a key. The good news is that I will be there on the 30th, so I can help her move. I don't get why they can't just move kids in to her place where she is already staying? How does this relate to the economy? I think I'll just think about PC and it will brighten up my thoughts. Do you think that people are paid at Disney to find ways to make the cpers more uncomfortable? Just wondering. The only reason she didn't complain about her apartment situation was because she had Aug. and getting new roommates to look forward to. Ho Hum. Marla

For me, I saw it all from the other side. First, my apartment was all leaving in May and from what we were told, each apartment has their own departure date...so that everyone will leave at once. Well, in March we had gotten a new roomate. Luckily she was soo sweet and soo nice that we all clicked with her and she joined our little cirlce. The thing was she was leaving in August. Of course in May, everyone had to move and once again my roomate had to join another group of girls for a few months. I had another friend who also had to move except was told that the apartment was splitting up. That didn't make them too happy considering they had bonded and only had a couple more months to go as well. I think that housing at least trys the best they can to keep as many roomates together as posible. In both situations, they didn't really like their new roomies but what really helps is the other people at work and people that they had met before. Try not to think that all new living situations are going to be bad. We were soo excited to be getting a new roomie and we all ended up becoming really close. Sometimes we thought that they were doing these things on purpose. Transportation changes, moving, having no buses on grad nites!!!, why rent was so high on such little pay...stuff like that...but tell her to stick with it because the experience is well worth it.

I cannot believe I just said that. Not that I do not agree with her, but that I just wrote that I agreed with a Funky Rooster!!!!!!

I believe that whatever works out for DS, he will adapt. I also believe that your DD should talk to her coordinator about her concerns. I believe they will not want her to go through that again. Also, the kids moving out of the Commons will be moving then. So good chance she will have a group of newly found roommates to get with.

Marla, you are going to have to find a computer while you are down there and give us an update for property control. DW has threatened DS with I do not know what if he does not go in the next day or so and let her know what it is like,

I spoke to another CP'er last night online and she said right now for the opening they had only new stuff!!!

Angelgirl,
I have a question for you. My DD begins her CP on August 20th. We are planning on visiting her the first week of December. Do you know if she will be able to get a discount for our stay at the Swan. I don't know if this is technically considered a Disney Hotel.
If you prefer to answer me through e-mail I would understand.
My e-mail is Jan376@aol.com. Thanks for any help.

Jan

As far as I know it is not part of the discount program. Why not stay at one of the WDW hotels?

Safetymom,
Our reservations for the Swan were made last January before DD had received her acceptance letter. We will probably switch to a Disney Hotel if we can get a better rate than the government/teacher rate at the Swan. Will the hotel discount rate information be available at check-in day, or soon after? Thanks for you help.

Jan/Ma,

Your daughter won't actually get to use her discounts (except for getting into the parks, for which she can use her housing ID and a copy of her resident agreement) until she gets her Disney ID. Your hire date isn't the same as your CP arrival date -- they have to process all of your actual paperwork before you're considered an actual cast member.

That said, if you call and explain the situation, Disney may be able to work with you.

You learn something new every day! I never knew that, I guess realized is a better word, that YesDear and RweTHEREyet were married! Congrats again to your son for responding the way we all expect a WDW lifeguard would respond! :)

I never said I was married to HER!!! Who is to say we did not have a clandestine affair at WDW almost 21 yrs ago and made our Mickey Love Child!!! LOL!!!

At least you can say she has me well trained!!!

Honestly, you guys, when I read the post about the rescue, and I reade two different people taking credit for their son being the first one there........ I swear I was waiting for a fight! Surprise!!! I also didn't realize that there was a ...."connection"! (Is that a good term??

Well, I'm off to DW tomorrow morning..... want to help DD move, but she insists that she wants to do it herself ....drawer by drawer! We'll see. I give her alot of credit. She reminded me that this is all about her learning to be more independent! She is now wondering what she needs to do since she is moving tomorrow but her other roommates are staying there as long as they can. She figured that of course she will clean her space, but doesn't want to hear from them in a few weeks saying that she needs to clean the kitchen!! or something. Anyway...... Property control, here I come. Can I get anything for anyone while I'm there??? ( pins, etc.) Talk to you soon. Be back on the 7th. Marla

Marla, have a great trip. When my daughter moved out before the rest of the roommates she took pictures of her room and other areas of the apartment. The pictures had the date on them and in the properties of the digital file. That way if any one said anything she had proof. Have her ask the housing people also what she should do. When my daughter moved out they took her off that apt. and she wasn't responsible for cleaning or damages when the rest of them moved out.

Marla, have a great visit. I hope this next apartment is right for your daughter.

Safetymom, great idea with the pictures!

How much I'm enjoying this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like the dis own little reality thread.

Best wishes to all Cp'ers out there!!!!
