leaving food for housekeeping?

Nope- I believe they throw anything left over away. smart, because when you think about all the guests they clean for, a couple are bound to have a screw loose- for all the housekeeping knows the guest could have tampered with (drugs?) the food left. not saying you did, but hey there are crazy people out there.

Unopened items we do leave for housekeeping. Water we give to bell services when they come for the luggage. Anything open is pitched before we leave.

Though anything canned we usually throw in the OL for next trip if we have any room.

I wrote an email to Member Services about tipping and leftover stuff. Here is the response I got:

Hello Jean,

Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

We appreciate your interest in a DISNEY VACATION CLUB Resort.

Although they are not required, Members may feel free to leave
housekeeping tips as a form of recognizing their gratitude for the
service provided. Housekeepers are able to accept any tip that is marked
for Housekeeping. Members may, also, leave any unopened foods that they
do not wish to take with them for housekeepers as well.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,

Donna

Interesting, since this contradicts what so many people on the boards say about housekeeping being a non-tipped position and about housekeepers being prohibited from accepting tips!

Prohibited to take tips? Really? For the last ten years I have left mousekeeping a tip. Never once was it still in the room when I returned. I always out a note with it. "thank you mousekeeping.".

Yes. Just about any thread on the subject of tipping will include this discussion.

What a sad outlook on life :confused3 I"m sorry
That said, we too are reasonably careful. We only leave unopened stuff
We leave our unopened things like water etc with a note. Anything open we throw away.
AT Vero Beach, I took a bag with an unopened stick of cheese, a box of crackers and some chips and salsa to the front desk. The CM was excited and said she would put it in the CM break room

Tip for mousekeeping were never prohibited, but they are a non-tip position which means they are paid at least minimum wage for a non-tipped position so no reason to up unless you just desire to.
