Leaving dog in RV during the day

If you have an RV with a/c or fan (depending on the time of year- we will be going late February most likely) will FW allow you to leave your dog in the camper instead of kenneling it?

We have a couch potato boxer that would be much less stressed just being able to crash in the trailer for the day rather then being kenneled. My thinking is that we would stop in a couple times during the day and let her out and stuff.

I think as long as it is a hard bodied rv, not tents or pop ups, you can leave puppy in all day. My parents have two babies and they stay in the motorhome while we are in the parks. If it is not a hard body, you have to kennel them during the park days and can keep them at night.

I believe you are correct. We always take our Jack Russell Terrier camping and no matter where we go he stays in the camper while we go out. He has the AC and TV on to drown out any noise from outside and we have all the curtains drawn and sunvisors in the windows so its nice and dark inside. We makes sure he has water and food and off we go. Usually when come back in the early afternoon to walk him he is fast asleep and could care less if we were gone. We rarely leave him for more than 5-6 hours when we camp. At home he is alone 8-9 hours while we are out at work or school.

We also leave our dogs in the camper. They are well behaved and sleep all day. DH checks on them through out the day. He is paranoid that the power could go or that the air conditioner would break. We have never had a power failure at disney but we did at another campground and it was 95 degrees out, the rv heated up like an oven.

DH also leaves the door unlocked. If God forbid anything ever happened, like a fire, he would hope someone would open the door and let the dogs out, although i've never seen that happen either.

At home i'll leave them for 12 hours but i worry when they are in the RV , we check on them at least every 4 hours it is a pain in the but when you are at the parks. We use to put them in the park kennel, because it was quicker to check on them, but they are seniors now and will not tolerate a kennel as opposed to the luxury of the RV :rotfl:

We leave our two gals (a doberman and a pomeranian) in the fifth wheel. We also turn on the radio and pull down all the blinds in hopes that they will sleep and not destroy anything. When it's warm I do worry about the electricity going out and the pups getting hot in the camper. FW is the only campground where we are gone away from the camper for a long time and we don't go in the summer time so the summer heat has not been a concern for us.

There are lots of campers who leave their animals in the campers. I would much rather leave mine in their "home" then kennel them.

My senior citizen beagle mix has spent many a long hot August day in our RV at Disney! However, I would warn that we have had short (less than an hour) power outages in the middle of the night our past two visits, so it CAN happen. Disney was right on top of it both times, but know that it can happen. One thing I bought was a "freezer" type dog bed lining that I think helps keep him cool, and I have a sign in the window to the effect that there is a dog on board (in case of fire, god forbid, as someone else mentioned). RJ loves all the swamp critters at Disney!

I think if you be sure to use the A/C, it's about as humane an environment as you could hope for. Far better than the kennel, as the surrounding scents will comfort your pet as opposed to an entirely alien environment in the kennel.

Awesome!

I know it will be much much less stressful on the boxer.

Thanks , it is good to know that disney has lost power. I would think in that event that the pet loops would be a top priority, especially if it were during the day. They know there are animals in the campers and the owners are gone.
