Leaving camera in locker

Okay I have been trying to figure out what to do with my camera. I hear a lot of people take it on the rides, but I really cannot imagine taking it with me on rides like space mountain or splash mountain. I think I would spend the whole time worrying about it instead of enjoying the ride. But the only camera I have other than my DSLR, is my on my phone so it takes bad pictures. So I really want to bring it. Has anyone brought their camera but left it mostly in the the locker but then took it out for special things like parade and the fireworks? If so is where do you find is the most convenient locker in the different parks to put it? Or should I just suck it up and take it on the rides with me?

I cant comment on the lockers since I have never rented one for the purpose of camera storage.

My 2 trips since having a DSLR it never crossed my mind not to have it on me 100% of the time. The 1st trip I used a Lowepro 202aw sling bag. This bag worked well, fit the DSLR and atleast 2 lenses and some other things. It easily fit on all rides and no issues what so ever. As for carrying the bag I found out on this trip I was not really a fan of the sling style bags.

For my last trip I used the Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home. It fit the DSLR w/ 17-50 2.8 attached, Sigma 10-20 UWA, Canon 70-200L F/4 IS and Canon 430ii flash. I didnt carry all of that at all times but it was nice having the option. Again this bag fit pretty easy on the rides.

The only times I didnt have the camera out what in fear of it getting wet (splash mountain).

The weight, while heavy, was not that bad for me. Each person is different in that respect though. I would walk around with whatever you plan on bringing at home for hours to get a feel for it. I did this for several week before the trip to get ready.

I've heard of people leaving a DSLr in a locker mid-day because the harsh mid-day sunshine does not result in great pictures anyway.

Personally I keep my cameras with me at all times...even on rides. I would not keep my cameras in a locker because, you never know when a photo opportunity may present itself.

I use the Kiboko 22L+, which allows me to carry two camera bodies with lenses attached, along with additional lenses and other equipment. I had no problem carrying this bag with me on any ride....including splash mountain.

It wouldn't be a consideration for me to bring my DSLR to the parks to put in a locker for most of the day.

If you have a camera bag it's really nothing at all to bring it on the rides. They really are not as rough as you may be thinking.

First, I will admit to being a pack mule when it comes to WDW. Second, I have carried my camera(s) all over WDW and on ever ride without incident. Because I have a WR camera body and len(ses) (Pentax), I really haven't had to worry about water as much as others. However, I do keep a dry sack in my bag, just in case. Others carry a zip lock bag. A little water is not going to hurt your camera, however dropping it into a body of water or a deluge could (probably!). In heavy rainstorms I have placed it under my shirt to keep it as dry as possible. Whatever works!

As far as not shooting midday because of the harsh sun, I just use my external flash as fill to knock down the harsh light and reduce shadowing. It has worked well. You never know when the "money" shot is going to occur, so that is why I carry all my equipment all the time. Since my family refuses to pose, I have to get candid shots when they are not looking, otherwise I am there to photograph WDW. While my family hates to be in the shots, they love looking at the images and reliving the vacation.

It is not a problem to bring the camera on rides, really. Disney rides just aren't that rough. Most of us on this board have the camera out and shooting during the rides--even Splash and Space.

If you are really worried, put the camera in the bag and wrap the strap of the bag around your feet. It'll be fine. I have brought my camera and a tripod onto Rock 'n' Rollercoaster that way. RNR is about the only ride I don't try to shoot pics during--but the camera is still just fine near my feet, safely padded in its bag, on that ride.

I too never leave my camera in the locker. There have been days (on a long vacation) where I bring my tiny point & shoot instead of my DSLR - leaving that in my hotel safe. I generally make a decision in the morning based off which park / area we are going to whether to bring my bag with accessories or just sling my camera across my shoulder and go. Deciding factors for me:

Bring the Lowepro 100 (can compactly hold all my purse stuff + camera with lens + 1 extra lens + filters + external flash)​

• Going on water rides
• Character meal
• Overcast day

Don't bring bag & just keep camera out​

• Going to Magic Kingdom (& not riding splash)
• 2nd or 3rd day at given park
