Leave tomorrow and DD HURTS ANKLE

As some one who has had far too many sprained ankles and knees growing up the best thing to do is the old proven method that sports medicine trainers still say to do, either tape it up good with elastic bandages or buy a elastic ankle brace for support. The main point in sprains is to keep walking on it, that loosens it up and in a very short time it's gone. The worst thing is to tell her to keep off it and baby it. When you look at sports the trainers always tell you to walk it off when you have a sprain. And ice it. One other point about using an elastic bandage is that you can adjust how tight it is where with a premade support you get what they have. BUt don't panic she's young and resilient.

I once broke my foot half an hour after checking into my Disney Resort! I thought the vacation was ruined, but a wheelchair saved the trip. Follow your doctor's advice, but I'm sure she'll be fine in a wheelchair, appropriate brace or wrap, and pain medication regimen. Almost all lines and shows are wheelchair accessible now.

If it's not sprained and just injured, you can always figure out how to wrap up her ankle with athletic tape and pre-wrap and just walk at a slower pace while at the parks.

My DD tore her ACL 36 hours before our flight last year. She was cleared to travel and insisted on going. She had crutches and preferred to use those, but we rented a wheelchair every day. It was inexpensive (I thought) and we got a discount for renting multiple days. Bring ziplock bags with you and you can get ice from CS to help if swelling occurs.

I twisted my ankle really badly about 2 weeks ago (fell down 2 or 3 steps into my garage). I can fully weight bear, and there are times when it doesn't hurt or is a dull pain, and then there are times that it really does hurt quite a lot. Is it possible your Dd may not be saying she's in pain, but that its coming and going? (Oh , I also have no bruising and no swelling). I would definitely look into a stroller or a wheelchair, depending on her age. Walking on it a lot could aggravate the injury. Beyond that, take your drs advice on how to otherwise treat it.

If you can find it in your local grocery store health section, WalMart, Walgreens, or something similar, get some Arnica cream. Depending on brand it might just say Arnica cream, Arnigel, Arnisport, etc. It's a natural healer which is good for sore muscles and bruising. We've used it several times on our kids...including one who fell down a flight of steps because he was being a little wild. Despite falling down the whole flight of steps he ended up with zero bruising and was perfectly fine within a couple of hours.

That said, it's no guarantee that she will be perfect with it (we had it on hand at the time of injury) if you take it, but it should help for faster healing. If she's sore at all, I would just go ahead and use the wheelchair option when possible. That will allow her more rest on her ankle for the first days so she'll be ready to go at the end!!

Years ago, I hurt my ankle a few days before a Disney trip. After an MRI, the doctor told me I would need to wear an air cast. I was stubborn and didn't want to wear it. So I went without anything and toured normal pace. Fast forward to a few days into the trip and my ankle was terribly swollen, and I could barely walk. I had to get it wrapped at First Aid, and as a result of not letting it heal correctly, I had horrible daily ankle pain for a year and a half afterwards. Lesson learned. Listen to the doctor!
