Leave Carrie Alone!!

Carrie Prejean, she's the Ms. California contenstant in Donald trumps beauty pagent who said she was against gay marriage. A lot of people think she lost the pagent because of her answer.

As a resident of the state of California..............OH BOTHER! :headache:

I was back in New England for the month of August.......is she back in the News again? :headache:

From what I read, one of the issues in her lawsuit is that she is upset the Miss USA California people revealed they paid for her breast implants.

I think she's a bigot, I think she's not too bright, and I think this is her desperate bid to try to get her 15 minutes of fame to stretch on a little bit longer.

who cares?? :confused3

Even if she lost the pagent because of that answer... so what??

Is it better if she lost because her bottom was too wide...or her hair was not brown ...or her smile was not wide enough???

When you put yourself in a pagent ...you are going to be judged!!!!

Her 15 minutes are up....

Agreed. It's not her opinion so much as how she stated it. She basically said that gay people have no moral values.

I thought she said that it was great that Americans are able choose to have a hetero- or homosexual marriage - but 'in her country' it wouldn't happen. So basically she doesn't believe in that choice at all - how can she possible state that it's great to have it?!?

Regardless of her opinion, I think she came off as, at best, naive and, at worst, stupid. Her sentence made no sense. :confused3

Personally, I think she's a dolt, and this whole lawsuit business is all about her trying to keep herself in the spotlight.

I agree.

I also wondered: Carrie Underwood? :scratchin Carrie Fisher?

I'm a Christian and I think she's a bigot.

Thank you! I agree.

She stated her position as gracefully as she could--the most graceful way some can explain they're a bigot, anyway.
So, she's a bigot because she doesn't believe the way you believe but you're not a bigot by calling her one because she doesn't believe what you believe.

An interesting dichotomy....

That being said, I think she's trying to keep herself in the spotlight. I'd have said my peace and left it at that.

Not quite what she said:

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or the opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

I have a feeling based on the subject matter, this thread will be locked soon. It's hard to discuss this without talking religion or politics. Its a hot topic.

Nope, she said:

"Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. Religion or politics aside, her sentence was a contradiction. I don't think she even understands her own beliefs because I've never seen her able to articulate them, neither at nor after this event.

Hey, I just got the quote from an article. Was just trying to get the exact quote to clear things up. The article I found didn't have that first part. Oh well. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517137,00.html

To make it crystal clear here it is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XMvviFbkf0

I think she was put on the spot with a question that shouldn't have been asked on that show.

That doesn't make any sense.

But, I guess, by your logic, I'm OK with being intolerant of the intolerant! :thumbsup2

At first I thought she was talking about Carrie Bradshaw. I was wondering why someone was getting so upset about a fictional character.

I was thinking Carrie Fisher, myself. I was wondering what poor Princess Leia had gotten herself into.

I think she understands her beliefs. She started to answer it the politically correct way and realized she couldn't go against her own conscience and lie about her beliefs (which I give her credit for...if I had been asked a question in a job interview and I knew the company's viewpoints differed from mine, I'd probably try to find a way to get around answering the question or I'd just go along with what I knew their views to be....whether I agree with her or not, she stuck by her beliefs) just to win a beauty pageant. As far as her suing the pageant, I don't agree with that.

Yeah, I'll definately agree... she's a hottie!
What was the question?

See I would believe that based on that quote. She was nervous. She was trying to win. She was trying to be politically correct.

What gets me is that in no other interview - any of her many, many interviews - or in any statement she has ever released has she been able to coherently state her own opinion. It's like she thinks she knows what she wants to say but it doesn't make any sense whenever she opens her mouth.

Whatever her beliefs are, I stand by my own judgement that she's obviously out of her depth with this whole thing. I think she's being misled by people encouraging her to continue to talk to the media or even pursue the matter in court. I feel kinda sad for the girl, she obviously wanted to win really badly and it's all kind of turned into one giant mess for her.

Interesting....so it's a "do as I say" type of situation.

Human nature is an amazing thing! :thumbsup2

Not really. Or I guess so. Whatever.

There has to be a point where we're allowed to call something wrong. I believe that restricting basic civil rights to certain groups of people is wrong. I don't think that makes me a bad person. I'm sleeping fine tonight.

I never said she wasn't entitled to hold whatever opinion she wants. But she needs to be accountable for it. And it is a bigoted opinion. I guess I don't see what's unclear about that.

Whether she feels the bigotry is justified is a completely different issue.

She stated in her Country and in her family - right?

Well Federal law defines marriage as between a man and a woman.
Her beliefs define marriage the same way - states may have different laws BUT that is how marriage in this Country is defined.

I think it was a stupid question, she was screwed either way and past that I have not followed the story so I cannot comment further.

In the interviews I saw on Fox News, she seemed to express herself very well and seemed pretty intelligent. Maybe you and I got different things out of the interviews (or maybe we saw different interviews?)
