Leave A Legacy Walls - An Eyesore?

This has probably been discussed here before, but I did a search and nothing came up so I just *have* to make my comment.

Does anyone else think the LAL walls are an eyesore? I think they look awful right there in front of you as soon as you go through the turnstiles. Is there a reason that they have to be right there? Are they supposed to slow down traffic like speedbumps or what? I just think they really mar the visual impact of walking into Epcot and seeing SE in front of you. I feel like they're hurdles I have to climb to get into the 'real' park.

My husband and I think they look like a war memorial that should be in Washington, D.C. and not the entrance to EC. I do not know who thought that they looked good or what focus group gave positive feedback but we hate it. We usually enter through the International Gateway and always comment when we get to Spaceship Earth how ugly that area is and how we are glad we do not have to walk through it on a regular basis. I am usually a Disney supporter but that idea was just bad.

Could be better somewhere else... maybe spread out over different locations throughout futueworld...

But I think the hand on SE is far, far worse.

I really hope that comes down eventually.

We went to WDW the first time a year before MGM was opened. There was just MK and Epcot. Although the LAL monuments might be a bit of an eyesore, they do at least somewhat, "fit" into the theming of epcot in general.

But that hand....

I guess I've always been too excited to be at Disney to think of the walls as an eyesore. Either that or maybe we're just exited to hurry up and get to the walls to see our family's pictures up there!

I'm not dissing you or your tile, or anyone else who has a tile. I'm dissing where Disney choose to put the 'big rocks' that display your tiles. They just plopped them onto the concrete near the entrance, with no pretty landscaping or anything.

I like them a lot. I make a point each visit to stop by and look at ours. Also our brick by the MK.

I don't particularly care for them - rather odd looking, if you ask me.. However, I don't "hate" them - and certainly wouldn't start a movement to have them relocated or destroyed.. LOL

Maybe I'm narcissistic Because I like to visit...and look at our picture. Or, that their were no stones to be purchased outside of MK. But,
the best reason is, I get to see what once was my little girl, and who now is becoming a young lady. And maybe one day befor it comes down she might be able to share it with her own family.

Count me in as not liking LAL or the big hand on SpaceShip Earth I like the BAH (big *** hat) at MGM but not where it is. It ruins the view of the Chinese theater and the giant hidden Mickey from the air. I kept whining to DH how LAL looks like a graveyard. Now when he heads for the bathroom at Epcot he says he is going to "leave a legacy"-haha-sorry childish.

I've always hated the Leave a Legacy monuments, it reminds me of a cematary and I think that is an awful way to enter a place of enjoyment......don't want my face on a monument til after I am gone..............I do like the bricks though. Maybe next visit I'll bring some flowers!

When sales for the bricks were announced at WDW, we thought they were a neat idea and bought one. Same thing happened when Disneyland decided to cash in on the idea.

When we heard about LAL, we took a look at what they were doing. The pictures were horrible and we decided to pass. But who am I to tell anyone what to spend their money on?

Once they began placing the monoliths in the Courtyard, I was really disappointed. The plaza area in front of SE used to be a beautiful expanse that framed the landmark. I am sure the architect who designed that area resented the trashing of a beautiful space. I resent it, especially because it was apparently done only "for the money".

I never thought they looked like tombstones, but I agree with the posters that suggest they look like a war memorial. To me, they look like the portable "Jersey walls" set up at road construction sites. With all the new construction at WDW I'm sure they could find a use for them somewhere.

For me the area will always be a constant reminder of when money became more important than "magic" at WDW. I guess Michael did leave a legacy...

Not a fan of the Epcot cemetary, a major detraction from the old entrance. It actually reminded me of an old film - Monolith Monsters - about giant rocks that grew out of the ground. My friend and I even passed on the free picture when we were there in Jan 05.

As we go into Epcot, we listen to other people's reactions..and have often heard kids ask, "why did they put a cemetery right where you walk in?". I don't like it at all...in that area. Better to put it off to the side somewhere. Definately looks like a memorial that belongs in DC. I'd rather see fountains and gardens.

I need to rush up into SE as soon as possible to get it out of my head. Hate hate hate those ugly, nasty tombstones. It starts every entry into Epcot on a really sour note for me, and it gets worse each trip, because on what planet (future or present) is concrete a thing of beauty?

I thought the brick idea was crass, but you can ignore them. They MAKE you walk though the concrete cemetary.

I don't mind the MGM hat or the hand on the SE. Cartoony, yes, but not contrary to the spirit of the parks.

I don't like the constant fiddling with the castle, though -- seems like every time I go they've done something else to it (the horrific birthday cake, etc.). This time was Cinderellabration, which at least had the benefit of different characters worked into it, so you could play "Spot the ____" But the beauty of the original castle never seems to be visible when I'm there.

I TOTALLY agree. That thing is hideous, I wish they had taken it down after the millenium celebration.

They should be renamed from "Leave a Legacy" to "Leave More Money Behind". The first time we saw those back in 2000, DH and I were thinking "This is just like the Pet Rock Craze...yet another way for Disney to separate you from your money".

He figures on future trips, he should just toss his wallet into the big fountain as an offering.

To each his own, I guess, but the first thing I thought of when I saw LAL was that it looked like some sort of WWII memorial to the dead. We walked over to see what it was all about, and I couldn't believe how mediocre the photos of the people were. That's what people spent their hard-earned money on? Disney sure knows how to separate folks from their money!
