Leave A Legacy Walls - An Eyesore?

This has probably been discussed here before, but I did a search and nothing came up so I just *have* to make my comment.

Does anyone else think the LAL walls are an eyesore? I think they look awful right there in front of you as soon as you go through the turnstiles. Is there a reason that they have to be right there? Are they supposed to slow down traffic like speedbumps or what? I just think they really mar the visual impact of walking into Epcot and seeing SE in front of you. I feel like they're hurdles I have to climb to get into the 'real' park. :earboy2:

I think they're kind of cool. Could be b/c my fiance and I are on the first set of walls as you walk in. But it doesn't really bother us. We like to walk around and view the new pics. Maybe that's why it's there, to distract the crowd from all rushing to the same place.

I'm also partial to them as my dh and I have one up from our Honeymoon.

Add me to the list of those that like Leave a Legacy at the front of the park. I can't think of anywhere else that it would look right.

Maybe if I had a pic up there like some of you do I would feel differently, but I dunno. They just look so out of place to me. I know it's not going to happen, but I think they would look nice off to the side somewhere, maybe with some nice landscaping or something. Maybe with some strategically placed benches and a fountain. Just standing there in the middle of a concrete walkway...I dunno, I just don't think it works at all. It's a fun idea though. :wizard:

I totally agree! They look like giant tombsones and are a big downer just as you enter the park; they inhibit foot traffic, especially with strollers; and they disturb the sight lines into the park. While we're griping, I also hate the Big Hat in MGM, perhaps even more than the LAL walls. This used to be a lovely view, but now you can hardly see the facade of the Great Movie Ride. It all looks tacky.

Now that you guys mention 'tombstones' I can definitely see that aspect. Now they're not going to just be stodgy eyesores to me, but 200 year-old half sunken grave markers. Thanks!

And boy are you right about the hat! The first time I went to MGM was in '92, before the hat was installed. It does seem rather pointless and you're right it does impede the view of the theatre. Maybe if they did something with it other than put a pin shop beneath it I would like it more.

I find the hand on SE to be a worse eyesore.....

I like 'em cuz my DS & I have a tile from our first Mom & son trip.

We think alike. We don't have a pic there and don't plan to. I think it's an eyesore. :sad2:

I think they are a great idea.....but I think they look strange smack dab in the enterance of the park. I think they would look more fitting near mission space or something.

If you have to paint the supports of Spaceship Earth to "blend in", I don't think it should be done. :)

I'm with the OP and don't care for them at all.

I don't like them. I would say that maybe if they were somewhere else...however I can't think of anywhere that they would look good. I just don't like the design.

I like the MGM hat, but not so much where it is.

I do like the hand/wand on the Epcot ball though.

We enter Epcot from International Gateway. :D

So do I. Whenever I can, I go in that way. The front entrance of Epcot used to have beautiful flower beds and fountains, too, I think. Now I could cry seeing that ugly graveyard type thing there. I avoid it and go in WS whenever I can-it's the only pretty entrance.

Thank you thank you thank you. I have always thought they were a little tacky (I love the bricks at Magic Kingdom), but I've kept my mouth shut for fear of alienating anyone. The fact that it is (or was) offered as a perk for Dream Maker packages was a strike against the package (again, at least, for me).
