Thinking of changing my resort res from POR to renting somewhere with more space, but trying to be as economical as possible.
Which is the least expensive for two adults, a teen, and two kids under 9?

Probably AKV in a one bedroom villa. Standard view or value villa. They sleep five people.

But if you are talking about your reservation that starts in about a month, you probably are too late.

AKV Value 1 bedrooms do not sleep 5, there is no sleeper chair.

OKW 1 br is pretty low in points and you can always bring a air mattresss. HUGE livingroom. They are in the process of getting sleeper chairs but not sure when they will all be in. I don't think they have started yet. When is your trip???

Bay Lake Towers is the fewest points for 5. Might be some AKV 1BR's with 5? :confused3

Disney Reservation Center will not allow five in an OKW one bedroom. Only DVC MAY allow it at this time.

Nope, BLT will be the most points for a one bedroom villa, especially one that sleeps five.

Thanks.... you are just a wealth of knowledge. I can always trust that you will correct me if I am wrong. ;)

I don't know when you are going, but one bedrooms at BLT or AKV can sleep five as they have a sleeper chair and the pull out queen sofa in the living room.

At the other DVC resorts, you need a 2 bedroom. Some of the older resorts will let 5 in the 1 bedrooms on DVC reservations, but they do not provide any bedding for them which means someone is defiintely going to be sleeping on the floor or air mattress (which you must bring with you).

The range in points would be somewhere from 250 - 300 for a week in the summer, Magic Season, one of the more expensive times. An average rental is $10/ppt, so you are looking in the vicinity of $2500 - $3000.

Just to sum up, so this thread isn't too confusing to you...Only BLT and AKV offically sleep 5 in a one bedroom unit and will have the bedding for that. OKW will have the most space, and while MS will allow you too book 5 in a 1 bedroom, you will not have enough bedding for 5 unless you are going after they have renovated and added the sleeper chair. All others (SSR, BWV, BCV, VWL) will only have bedding for 4 and may or may not let you book 5 in a 1 bedroom.

The lowest points for a 1 bedroom that will accommodate 5 is OKW followed by AKV and then BLT will be the most points.

Related question - I remember seeing the 1BR model at AKV and that there was a second bathroom, which made me think that 5 in there wouldn't be so tight. Are the BLT 1BRs set up that way, too? We've only been in Studios at BLT so far...

We're going down next year with myself, DH and DS, and my parents. We travel with them all the time and usually stay at OKW 2BD when we are all together, for the space.

But are thinking about doing OKW for 4 or 5 nights, and then just a couple of special nights at AKV Savannah view or BLT MK view, and am wondering if it's just for a couple nights whether we would rly need the whole 2BR.

AKV Kidani and BLT have 2 bathrooms in a one bedroom unit. AKV Jambo House may not.

Ahh, but the other require 2BR's for 5. Dont all BLT 1BR's sleep 5?

Thanks Diane, so you can have 5 in an OKW 1 BR for ME etc, but not the others? (except BLT/AKV of course).

AKV - savanna and standard both allow five in a one bedroom. That's fewer points than BLT one bedroom.

In 2010, a BLT one bedroom standard view is 201 points for a week during Adventure Season, lake view 224 and theme park view is 272. An OKW two bedroom during the same time is 218 points.

So, yes, you could get a BLT one bedroom villa that sleeps five for fewer points than an OKW two bedroom villa that sleeps eight, but only by 17 points. And you'd have to get the BLT standard view which is hard to get.

If you couldn't get that standard view at BLT, you'd be better off getting the OKW two bedroom villa.

MS has been letting people put five in a one bedroom anywhere, but (generally) does not provide any extra bedding for #5. So except at the sleeps 5 one bedrooms at BLT and VAKL, you need to figure out how to sleep the fifth. Most people bring an air mattress and linens.

(Generally because on occasion DVC seems to have aerobeds that appear when you request them - but sometimes not).

The cheapest options will be two AKV value or BWV standard studios. The cheapest 1 BR that's appropriate should be AKV standard. Better for this group would be for OKW, BWV standard or AKV value 2 BR. Length of stay and the specifics of the kids should help determine the best course.

I see, so you can get ME for 5, and 5 room keys for DP/SAB/EE nights etc in a BCV 1BR for example-just not the bedding?
