So finally after a bad break in my leg and 2 surgeries I have been given the OK to start walking:thumbsup2

It is amazing how much you can forget and how week you can become in 8 weeks. I am having a hard time with this and quite a bit more pain then I thought. I was wondering if anybody has been through something similar and how long before you were able to walk? I was hoping to be ok by my trip:confused3

Did you have therapy for your leg? About 4 years ago, at the age of 60, I broke my tibia and had a rod inserted. I was in a boot and on crutches for about 2 months, and then I could walk on the boot without crutches or without the boot using one crutch. I didn't need PT and started walking as soon as it was safe to put a small amount of weight on my leg. I was weak, but I had little pain. I realize that everyone heals on a different schedule and has a different tolerance for pain, but you need to check with your orthopedist. I definitely didn't forget how to walk, and when I was able to get rid of the boot and crutch, I was walking normally within a few days. For the first week or two of walking without a boot or crutch, I did get tired more easily than I wanted to, but that didn't last long.

If you can get in a pool to walk that would be IDEAL. You are supported by the water and also get better exercise. I had my ankle rebuilt (age 24) and in 6 months I was about 90% "back." Took a year for 100%.

I broke my ankle in 2 places 2 years ago. It took about 18 months before I was ready to try Disney. And I still probably should have waited because I just didn't have the stamina and could only go a few hours a day and had to soak and ice every night when we got back to the hotel. I still have small amounts of daily pain and it has only been in the last 2-3 months that I have lost my limp.
It's a long process. Just make sure if you go to PT that you continue to do th exercises at home.

I agree if you can get into a pool that will help a lot. My problem is with my back so its a bit different. But the water helps and you will just plan feel better in water. I know I do. :) The water seems soothing as you are trying to move. Good luck and take it easy. You will be back up and doing things in no time. :)
