Had read somewhere here where someone was getting one of these for there child instead of a DVD player and I've seen them online but am not really sure if this is something my DD would get use out of for very long.

Was thinking of getting her one for an early xmas present so she could take it on the plane for our trip. Has anyone used one of these and what are your experiences? Does your child like it ---Is it worth the $80?

I read where they are preK to 2nd grade. My DD is 6 and in first grade--very advanced for her age. Would it be worth it to buy this for her??? Do they have cartridges for this like the leap pad where you can buy them for the age or level?? Thanks I would appreciate anyones help on this since we don't have too much time before we leave.:D

I think it is for younger kids like 4-6. If she is advanced she may outgrow it too fast. I got DD pixter and all the cartridges last year, she maybe touched it 2 times. The Leapster games are mostly 4-6 yr. if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks ceecee--

In that case does anyone have any ideas of anything out there that would be a good handheld size toy that would be good for car or plane rides for this age??? Ideally something educational would be good too.
Thanks again!:D

You could try I Quest - it should be in the same row as the Leap Frog things. My daughter got one for last Christmas and loves it. I'm not sure of the age range though, my daughter got the 5th grade cartridges with hers.

Hi there!

I would definitely consider the IQuest. I got one for my daughter when she was in the 5th grade and it is awesome (she is now in 7th and still uses it).

I would get the the IQuest that comes with the imind station. When you daughter gets a bit older, she can dowload practice questions from her text books. This has been a great way for my daughter to study for her tests! They have questions based on thousands of available text books (leapfrog.com) for science, social studies, math, etc. I believe there is an annual fee ($24), but it has been well worth it in my opinion!

The leapster says it is for ages 4-8, however, most of the software currently available is for younger kids. You are definitely better off with the IQuest :) I am purchasing the Leapster for my 4 year old son.... now if I could just find that stinker on sale ;)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

My son saw the ad for Leapster and wanted one, too! Then I read the age range, he's TEN, and said I'd save my money.

I got him the Quantum Leap Pad with the 4th grade book and the Movie making Harry Potter book. I've already played with it and it seems to be great. Mostly it has all of the things he needs to go over during their Christmas break while we'll be in Orlando!
