Hi Everyone,

My DD will be getting a pink, square shaped Leapster for Christmas. Several people have told me to get the recharger because they fly through batteries. So I went online and found a recharger, but it's a triangle shaped one. One reviewer said that the square shaped ones will need the L-Max recharger. I would just like to verify that the L-Max recharger will work on an original Leapster. If anyone has experience or knowledge of this that would be wonderful. :dog:

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

We just use the Every Ready 15 minute rechargable batteries but be sure you have the 15 minute charger to.

DD has a pink Leapster and she loves it. IMHO, the batteries last a decent amount of time. I just get the Walgreens brand and we are good to go. I have read bad things about the recharger and people having a hard time getting a connection between the two pieces. If I were you, I would do a search and read some reviews before I spent the money.

Your DD will love the leapster!

My daughter has has leapster for a few years now and I don't think it eats batteries at all. As long as you put good batteries in it and not some store brand they last for a long while.

Same experience here. I almost bought the charger when I bought the Leapster but I'm glad I never did.

Thanks everyone! I'll hold off on buying the recharger and save myself the $35.00. :cool1:

Personally, I would recommend getting 8 rechargeable AA batteries and a battery charger (assuming you don't already have one). Since the Leapster takes 4 AAs, with 8 batteries, we always have a set charged when the Leapster runs low on juice. Also, down the road, you could use the batteries and charger for other things.

I've seen some pretty good prices on rechargeable batteries and chargers at Costco.

One word of warning, though: The Leapster Recharger is a docking station-style charger that the child can set the Leapster into for charging. If you use regular or rechargeable batteries, you'll have to use a screwdriver to remove the back of the Leapster to change out batteries each time.

At first, DS went through batteries in about 3-4 days. Now, he goes through a set of batteries each week.

DD received her pink leapster last yr for Xmas. We finally broke down and bought the charger because DD can dock it herself, instead of waiting for me to get the screwdriver and find the battery charger etc.
from reading on the packages, I don't think the origional pink leapster can be charged on the new charger.
