Leapster Question

OK Im looking for a leapster for my 3 year old.... not sure what a reasonable price is? 49.00?

and is he too young for it?
He has been playing his sister PINK gameboy advance and seems to like it?

Any suggestions on games for him that dont require reading?

On black Friday many stores had them for as low as 29.99. I know that Kohl's carries them and the games. While their original prices are higher, when they are on sale they are comparable to other store's sale prices. Also go a google search for an additional % off coupon.

As far as if it is appropriate, we do not do video games in our house but some of my friends are buying them for their children who are in the 3-5 range.

My DS will be 6 in January and has had his Leapster since around 3, maybe 4 now that I think about it.

The early games that worked best for us were:
Letter Factory
Counting on Zero
Thomas the Tank Engine
Backyardigans
Clifford Reading (although when he was little he had me hold his hand and help write the letters when that part came up)

It has been great for travel - both car and air.

My parents are getting my son one for christmas. He is 4.5 now. We wouldn't let him get one until now. And honestly, he tried to play a friends and he couldn't handle it. I don't think there are any games for those younger than 4. They need to be able to read letters and numbers in order to play. So if your son can read letter and numbers, then he can handle it, I guess.

As for a price, my parents got it at Costco for $67. It came with Up game and a carrying case. Now a huge "deal" but the case alone made it worth it.

My son has a Leapster and he really likes it. We got it for him when he was 3 because he enjoyed playing with his sister's. I really like the Leapster system because it does have an educational aspect to it. Some games teach math or reading and some reinforce logical thinking skills... and it's nice to have for long car rides

Some games he enjoys are: Clifford Reading, Animal Genius, Backyardigans, Diego, Get Puzzled and Pet Pals.

He can read a little now but he couldn't when he got the Leapster and he seemed to be able to play most of the games. It does have an audio aspect (for example, in Animal Genius you'll hear a prompt like "press the up and down arrow button to explore..." "use the pen for this game" "to see a different animal press the blue arrow" etc. so a non-reader won't just be staring at the game feeling lost. You may have to help him out a little but the games are easy.

Also, I believe Leapster 2 cartridges can be played in both Leapster 1 & 2 machines. On Black Friday Target had games for $15.00. I think they are normally $20-ish.

My DS 3 has been playing his sisters for about 6 months now and he can play pretty much all the games. They do have a lot of audio that helps him out. The Nemo game is fun. He is getting his own this year bc I am tired of all the fighting. I believe there has been some coupons in Parents magazine and a couple other mags for 5 dollars off the games. Target had two games for 16 today. I think Star Wars and Kai lan. The Leapster website has had some decent deals too. Look for codes.
