Can anyone verify for me if the L-MAX games can be used on the standard Leapster system? I have seen it advertised that the opposite exists (leapster games can be used on L-MAX). I am assuming this works both ways, but was hoping someone may have both systems and can verify this for me.

I am looking into buying the Leapster for my daughter. There would be a much better variety of games if we can use either kind on the Leapster system. However if the compatability does not go both ways, we may consider spending the extra money for the L-Max System.

Also, does anyone think that since the L-Max is here, that eventually the Leapster will be phased out?

Some L-Max games can be used with the regular Leapster, but not all of them. Basically, it's the games that are only available in an L-Max version that can be used in a regular Leapster -- Letters on the Loose and Madagascar are two that I've noticed. It says right on the box that they are compatible with the regular Leapster.

My DS4 just got a Leapster a month ago and loves it!

You mention "games that are only available in an L-Max version" that can be used in the regular Leapster. Wouldnt that be all of the L-Max games? Or is there another type of game I am not aware of.

I will check the boxes at the store to see which ones are compatible in both.

Does anyone know if you lose some functionality of the game when it has been designed for the L-Max, however is being used on the regular Leapster?

I went to the store last night and checked some of the boxes. There was not a lot of L-Max games in stock, but each one they had said it was compatable on both systems. I also looked at a couple of games more closely and saw that there were some additional features/bonus rounds, etc that can only be played when the game is plugged into the TV. So it looks like you may lose some functionality when using it on the old Leapster system, but probably nothing that would be that noticeable.

In looking at some of the regular Leapster software, I noticed some say it can be used on L-Max and some do not. Does anyone know if this is just because the boxes were printed before the L-Max game came out? In other words, is the game compatable but it just doesnt say it on the box? Or are some of the older Leapster games actually not compatable? I am specifically looking at using the Disney Princess game on the L-Max system.
