Le Cellier

I'm not sure if it's effective current or as of January 1. But either way Le Cellier will be a 2 credit restaurant.

As of March 1, 2011, Le Cellier will be 2 TS for dinner. it will remain 1 TS for lunch.

There has been no word yet if there will be corresponding menu changes.

They will go from plastic all the way up to shoe leather grade beef!!!!!

Just kidding...I've had nothing but good steaks there and always thought it was a bargain for one credit in light of some of the other steaks that I've gotten on the dining play (Tony's Town Square for instance) where shoe leather would have been an upgrade.

The one rumor I had heard is that they'll start using Canadian beef again.

I have a reservation for march 14th and yea its def two table credits but heck my GF (fiance by the time the march trip will be over) and I have never been so we figured what the heck lets throw away two credits lol. If something uses two credits do you get more food? Ie. A appetizer as well as a dessert? Not sure on the two credit thing thought I would ask the experts :)

After eating at some of the signatures, there's no way I'd use 2 credits on Le Cellier. It's just not in the same category. I've eaten there twice, and enjoyed it both times, but not nearly as much as Narcoossee's, Flying Fish, etc.

No, you get the same entitlements as your regular plan. For basic DDP, that's entree, dessert, and beverage.

That presumes, of course, that the menu isn't "upgraded" to compensate for the move to signature status. There seems to be a lower standard for "signature" for an in-park restaurant vs. a resort restaurant, but with the Yachtsman literally within walking distance, I'd think that Le Cellier would have to do something to keep up.

I highly doubt any upgrade would be in the offing.
The idea here is to be subject to the supply and demand and exchange more credits for the food cost. Which is prudent because the place is mobbed.
I don't know if there is "lower standard" for a sig in the park - being that there is only one and Brown Derby has easily as good a meal experience as almost any of the others in the hotels.
But i like this move...the place is good but way overrated and anything to redistribute the crowds is probably necessary at this point.

Disney is not the place to get steak...never really has been.

With the possible exception of the presence of Shulas (which given it is not a Disney run restaurant qualifies only by being on property), truer words were never spoken. Those who regail places like Yachtsmen and LeCellier as examples of culinary nirvana really need to get out more.

Actually Shula's is quite good. Easily on par with Mortons, Ruths Chris, etc.

Le Cellier has a LONG way to go if it wants to compete at that level.

I do agree about Shula's...but they aren't governed by Disney's accountants and therefore might just give their kitchen the ability to maintain a certain level of quality in their choice of ingredients

This goes back to the point that many of us have been making for a long time. The introduction of DDP has reduced the quality of the food served in be participating restaurants. They have let the dining experience become controlled by accountants instead of by chefs! For those of us who loved the Disney dining experience how it used to be the changes have made it become something more akin to visiting any midlevel chain restaurant anywhere in the United States! At least in our opinion there is no real incentive to even try to find fine dining anywhere that is part of the DDP!

Aaaaah (screaming madly). sorry Locke, why do we use that as an excuse. :confused3
They charge outrageous money and now 2 TS to serve ho-hum steaks. Any place is a place to get steaks if you are running a steak house. I grew up in the restaurant business for 25 of my 50 years. There is not a beef distributor on the planet that could not supply Disney great cuts of meat.

I say it once, I say it a thousand times, any time you go to a steak house and the best thing on the menu is the soup, Houston we have a problem.

Actually, I shouldn't be upset because I gave LC 2 tries. fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I go elsewhere now.

you got me wrong....i'm not apologizing for the steak quality at all....

and i'm sure as heck not apologizing for a revamped cafeteria in the basement that serves bland steaks not exceptionally well prepared and the same bland salmon, chicken choices that are company policy at all other sit-down restaurants without fuzzy characters....

But disney isn't solely to blame on this one...it's the throng of people that have convinced themselves that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread and bombard the place like rabid hyenas in a drought...

but that being said...you don't get good steak at disney on the average...just really overpriced steak. it's not bad food...its bad value for the money...but sadly that applies to much in the streamlined Disney dining world these days.

I'm in the choir...

I haven't been around this neck of the blogosphere that long...but at other places i was on top of the soap box screaming that the dining plan was an attempt to cheapen and destroy dining as we know it...cold and calculating by the beaners...since the first day they rolled it out.

And it worked to a T...because nobody saw what would happen if it didn't fail and they fall for the stupid promotions with it like a blind roofer...
And they still fall for this junk...even after they modified it to screw the workers out of money and set you up to pay more and basically con a person outta more cash because it's "prepaid".

Ohhh...few things push my buttons more than what they have/ are doing to the MAIN reason that Disney parks were untouchable in terms of quality...and I'm not talking about Expedition Everest here.
