I find it interesting that Le Cellier has 12 votes and yet nobody has commented on their experience at both. ;)
Um, I commented on both and I voted for Le Cellier. Yachtsman has always underwhelmed us and we have always felt it was the worst signature, and outside of some negative lunch experiences in the past I've always enjoyed Le Cellier.

Yachtsman may have improved since our last meal there, but many people who voted for Yachtsman haven't been to LC in a few years either, so it goes both ways.

My point was there are a lot more votes for Yachtsman, 1/3 (or less) of the amount for Le Cellier and all of the comments (save yours) are in favor of Yachtsman.

Both are great places, but my vote is for the Yachtsman all the way. Their filet is a piece of heaven on a plate.

YSH here. LC steaks were not as tender and I received one with a lot of fat. Service as better and I didn't feel like I was sitting on top of the next table.

I thought your point was that none of the people who prefer Le Cellier have actually made a comparison to Yachtsman. My bad.

I certainly have to try Yachtsman again in order to have a more up-to-date opinion. But I remember the food being kind of simple and boring, and the menu doesn't really contradict that (lots of meat + potato + sauce). I can see why that might be appealing, but I'm not a steak person. I'd rather have a more interesting, composed plate.

We did Yachtsman in December. We were so excited to get walkup there. It was good, but we were both disappointed. After hearing how great it was, we just thought it was good, but nothing spectacular. I have nothing bad to say about it, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it there. LeCellier, which I ate at that same trip, is still my fav.

Commented just for you! ;)

My sister is going to go to Le Cellier and we are going to visit Yachtsman. She is "in love" with the preztel breadsticks. I think she also had a thing for Patrick who used to work there. She is going to be disappointed to find out that he went back to Canada. :rotfl:

I don't normally remember names, but Patrick was our server on my bday 2 years ago & was awesome!! He brought out champagne, and the strawberry on the glass had a candle in it. :)

Hubby and I went to the World for our 15th Anniversary last week and we ate at both places.

*Background - Neither of us are foodies and much prefer Applebee's to Fine French Cuisine. Of the two, I would be seen as more 'adventurous' because I am open to modifying 'scary-looking' menu options. Hubby suggested we do something 'fancy' for our Anniversary dinner, so after poring over menus and pics (thanks Dis!), I chose YS. I knew he would freak out over prices and the 'fanciness of it all', but YS looked like the best choice for him.

AMBIANCE
Yachtsman is New Englandy, slightly relaxed, with light wood that reminded me of the interior of a boat (go figure). We were seated at a 2-top right near the front of the restaurant, so it felt crowded. We were also seated next to an 8-top that had a VERY loud and VERY drunk man (dad, uncle?) that ruined the calmness of the place. Due to the openness of the rooms, it got very loud inside.

LeCellier is dark, brooding and cellar-like (go figure). It feels cozy, even if the tables are very close together. We were at a 2-top banquette and felt near to, but not all up on, our table neighbors. Even though this place also serves alcohol, most people were still very quiet and respectful of other diners.

FOOD
Yachtsman
As stated before, we are boring eaters. I already knew what was on the menu, but Hubby got ticked off at the prices, then got more ticked off that it was all so 'fancy' he didn't know 'what the hell any of it was'. Long story short, the food is not straight-forward meat and potatoes. You have to know some food terminology to understand the menu. That being said, he had the strip steak with mashed potatoes and I had the filet with potato gratin. He loved the steak, but was not impressed too much with the potatoes. I thought my filet was both undercooked and overcooked at the same time, which is weird. My medium = their rare, apparently, and it was a bit too charred on the outside for me. The gratin was made up of VERY firm potatoes and I didn't enjoy the flavor, so I asked if I could have some of the smoked paprika fries. Those were tasty, but really just fries. However, for $85, it was a pleasant evening.

LeCellier
I will admit that I am partial to LeCellier. But it was interesting to compare them to each other. Again, Hubby got the strip with cream cheese mashed potatoes, and I got the filet (without mushrooms or truffle sauce) and mashed potatoes. My filet was fork-tender and heavenly. His strip was just as good. The mashed potatoes seemed even creamier and richer than usual (I couldn't even finish mine!) I could not say a bad thing about this meal.

WAIT STAFF
Yachtsman
The Podium People (can't think of the word!) were very efficient, calling people back quickly. Once seated, our waitress Li was very helpful when we explained that we didn't drink and were really out of our element. She explained lots of things on the menu to me when I asked. She checked back often to see how we were doing on our Signature Adventure. We were given a small Anniversary Dessert of passionfruit gels and chocolate salted caramels. (So good!). Our drinks were never empty and our check came quickly.

LeCellier
We checked in a bit early, and scored a seat early as well. Our server was almost a bit overtalkative. It took a while for her to bring the bread and our drinks. It also seemed to take a while for the food to come out, but that could have been because I was hungry! It also took a bit for the check to come, and I requested 2 pretzel breads to go, but she never brought them out.

For us, the way we dine, and what we like to dine on, LeCellier is a hands-down winner. HOWEVER, Hubby has requested that we add it to our ADRs for our family trip in September, so that is High Marks for YS! If I had to choose, it'd be LeCellier every time.

For me it's not even close, I think the steaks at Yachtsman are good while Le Cellier was average (and that is being positive). I prefer the atmosphere and decor much better at Yachtsman, and I did not have to wait 45 minutes past my ADR to be seated at Yachtsman like I did at Le Cellier.

I guess if you are not a beef eater and you like the alternatives on their new menu like gooseberry cod (not for me), roasted duck breast (only grandpa can make duck I like), venison medallions (again grandpa on this),or vegetable-mushroom-goat cheese quiche (real men don't eat quiche) you may like Le Cellier. I'll pass, but to each their own. :goodvibes

Or if you like the taste of truffle with your filet (not on most menus) as opposed to red wine sauce (I've made that at home), and you think a piece of meat with mashed potatoes or fries is kind of boring when the quality isn't high enough to make up for it. :goodvibes

Although I do have to admit Yachtsman's chicken, cod, and vegetarian entrees sound better than Le Cellier's current chicken, fish, and vegetarian entrees. I need to give Yachtsman another chance, but until then I've had better experiences overall at Le Cellier.

I think I go to Le Cellier for the Risotto. Steak wise the were both good to me. Prefer the Risotto to the sides at Yachtsman. I think I had a bad waiter last time I was at Yachtmans, so that may cloud my opinion.

I like Yachtsman's but I LOVE Le Cellier. Both have very good items on their menus but what wins me over is the Cheddar Cheese Soup app and the chocolate moose dessert.

The filet w mashed potatoes, cheese soup & choc moose are the best & I enjoy getting a smoothie with the meal.

I liked Yachtsmann but not as well at LeCellier. The steak at LeCellier was fork tender & the flavor awesome. Yachtmann is not quite as good I don't think.
