Le Cellier Lunch

I carry a JACKET in my park bag so if it is chilly in a restaurant I won't be reduced to wearing a PONCHO. The problem is DS rarely carries his own jacket, so sometimes we have a spat over who gets my jacket. Besides, I only carry a poncho if it looks like rain.

I've had the Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon and thought it was great. We went there about a year and a half ago for my wife's Birthday and she got the cute "Chocolate Moose" dessert. Maybe it has changed since we were there. We would have gone back but reservations are so hard to get.

Another note, we ate lunch at The Wave a couple months ago and enjoyed it. The atmosphere was good and a nice break from the craziness at the parks.

I wish I had a dinner ADR and ordered the fillet. It sounds delicious! I just couldn't see myself ordering something like that for lunch. I thought about getting the chocolate moose.

We are going to The Wave for the first time on this trip. I wanted a custom cake from the Contemporary and Cali Grill didn't have an ADR at the time I wanted. I have been reading good things about The Wave, so I hope we like it!

People never believe me when I say this, but walk up to the Cali Grille desk and tell them you'd like to sit at the bar. If you don't have a problem eating at the bar there's a good chance you can get right in without an ADR. :thumbsup2

It's the same for the Sushi Bar, and from there you get a great view of the kitchen! Who needs an ADR? :thumbsup2

Actually, after I booked the Wave and got the details of the cake settled I saw that Cali Grill did have an opening. But the cake was so flippin' difficult to arrange in the first place I am afraid to mess with it. I don't want my cake to be sucked up by Contemporary Never-Neverland.

We would have no issue sitting at the sushi bar (LOVE sushi) or the "bar" bar, it just wasn't a good plan for this particular dining experience. :)

What does the custom cake look like?

That's the million dollar question, isn't it? It will either look like something from Food Network or like some crap cake from a cheap grocery store. It's like cake roulette. Have you looked at the Cake Gallery on the Restaurant forum? You never know what your cake will look like! It's a "congratulations" cake for DS to celebrate his middle school graduation/Arts Magnet acceptance. Stay tuned for pics of the cake - good, bad, or ugly! We are getting it on June 13.

If it makes you feel better, we've gotten 3 cakes from Disney and all of them have been awesome. The best one was the sleeping beauty cake for Emma's 4th birthday. It was stunning.

Thanks! :goodvibes
My past 2 birthday cakes have been from Boardwalk Bakery (served at Flying Fish) and they were great. But the decorations weren't fancy. This is supposed to be one of those fondant-covered creations from the pastry chef. We shall see!

There was a girl on the cake thread who ordered a fancy cake for her DH and it came out looking HORRIBLE. Worse than a bad grocery store cake. And then they charged her over $100 for it. :scared1: I specifically told the pastry chef NOT to make my cake look like that.

I wish I had a picture here at work of the Sleeping Beauty cake. It was covered in pink fondant, with a white/pink/silver fondant braid around the bottom, and a white chocolate topper with Aurora painted on it and white chocolate truffles surrounding her. It was vanilla cake with strawberries in the middle. Emma LOVED it. The chef brought it out personally. It was gorgeous. I hope your turns out awesome as well.

ETA: Not my picture of Emma's cake, but this is just about the same.

That's beautiful! What hotel made it for you? It seems like people have good luck with the GF. The others are more spotty.

I am kind of worried that it will either be made Friday and frozen until Sunday, or it will be passed off to some lackey who works weekends instead of the main guy. But the guy knows I post here, so hopefully he realizes if my cake is a disaster EVERYBODY on the DIS will know about it! :rotfl:

Ours was made at the AKL, and served to us at Boma. We've also had cakes made at the Poly and at Epcot (Biergarten) and they turned out really nice.

That's a beautiful cake! I was going to say that if that was Emma's cake they really messed up on the name! :lmao:

As for the cake... If a Disney Chef is making it, I'm sure it will be nice. Here is a photo of our wedding cake from Disney, it was amazing:

Ha! Love the cake, guys! Where is that photo taken? (I'm new to the forums so forgive me if I should know this).
