I don't know why I forgot to post this until now, but I wanted to let all fellow Canadians know about the AWESOME time we had at Le Cellier in Epcot. It seems so strange but it was like coming home - all of the staff were just great. We actually had a large # of the staff come by to talk just because we were from Canada. Our server was from Coquitlam and our conversation started off because DH was born in BC. The server couldn't believe we actually pronounced Coquitlam properly and the conversation just went from there. Another server was from Penetang and we had great conversations with them - talking about their contract, the residence, how Penetang had met his girlfriend at WDW (another CM), how the staff residence is pretty much like a frat house/university dorm etc etc. All in all our best meal at WDW (and the food was excellent as well). I would highly recommend going to Le Cellier and make sure you let them know you are from Canada (this also saves you from hearing the server's 'let me tell you a bit about Canada' speech ;) )

Has that server been there awhile? Last time we were there we also had a great server from B.C.- wonder if it was the same guy.

One of our long-time Canadian DIS'rs, Evil Queen, is currently working in Le Cellier (and living in the housing that you talk about, it's called the Commons). I'm sure she would love it if you said Hi when you go for dinner.

Oh - that's right I forgot! I remember when she got her job and was so excited. Oh well, next time.

As for the server from BC - I believe he was fairly new. HIs name was initials, like MJ or something, so a little stranger as it was 2 initials that you don't usually hear together like MP or something??

Whilst I agree it was a novelty to be able to speak to the Canadian kids who are working there, the reason we will NOT go back is because the food was (quite frankly) ...lousy!
The soup tasted like it contained half a cup of salt and the meat was as hard as a rock.
Now...you might say ...why didn't you send it back.
Well,,I would have if it wasn't for the fact that it took over 30 minutes to get my soup and another 30 minutes for the entree.
So,I'm sorry ...Le Cellier...no more for me

We love Le Cellier we try and stop in atleast once a visit. Penetang is close to the cottage we are in Honey Harbour. Le Cellier has by far the best menu and food in all of Disney.

I think part of the problem is they currently have to serve US beef not Canadian beef and to me that makes a huge difference. I don't care for american beef it is just not that good no matter how you ask for it cooked.

You have got to be kidding me.....Candaian Beef is AWFUL...Ever hear of mad cow? Look I live 5 minutes from the Canadian Boarder and will not eat Beef from Canada Because it is not up to American standards.....Grade C in US is Grade A in Canada. While I love Canada, Beef is not its strong suit. Now Tim Hortons Coffee, Beer and Strippers I'll give you credit for, but not Beef

Well to each their own I guess because I can't stand teh rubbery texture of US beef even the so called grade A variety. I will not eat steak or prime rib at any restaurant in teh US no matter how good the place is supposed to be. Alberta beef is the best and hmm as for mad cow I am pretty sure they have now found more cases in the US than Canada has had and none of the new cases were from Alberta cattle bought by US farmers. I do agree with teh Timmies comment and the strippers and our beer is by far superior to the coloured water you call beer in the US LOL.

Actually every butcher I have spoke to has said the the US standards on meat are not as as good as ours which explains to me why our steaks always taste so much better than any I have ever had in the states.

I have to agree with Charles on this one.

We love Le Cellier and go every trip. I had forgotten that EvilQueen is there now, so we'll be sure to ask for her when we go this month! And someone here just took their DS or DD down to work there ... was it Canadave ???

And yes, to each his own, but American Beef is no way better than Canadian beef. And I don't believe the bit about the "standards" either :rotfl:

Here at home we are fortunate enough to get our beef from a local farmer who just happens to be my FIL :teeth: His excellent beef has pretty much ruined us for anything store-bought! Must be in what he feeds them ;) And when we've gone out for dinner here and I've ordered a steak, I almost always come away asking myself "why did I do that -- I knew it wasn't going to be as good as I get at home".

But when it comes to WDW ... Le Cellier here we come!

I think our friend from Buffalo has his facts backwards....Canadian "grade c" is American "grade a". Our standards are far superior in almost everything to that of Americans....thats why it takes 20 years to get a new drug approved here unlike in the US. As for the beer, I don't drink it, Timmies coffee, don't drink it either and strippers? Well I can't say I can tell an American stripper from a Canuck one! :confused3

Yep I think he had his grades of beef backwards it is an honest mistake LOL.

Well if I cant will a debate abot beef with a bunch of Canadians I can rest peacefully knowing I live in a country that can blow your country up whenever we feel like it...........Pleasent Dreams!

BTW- The difference between a Canadian Stripper and an American one is bang for the buck ....... and positive exchange rate as well.

Wow a little bit of disboard rage I would say!! Back to the subject I enjoyed our lunch at Le Cellier. We are going to go again this December.

Well, I'm going to try and check out Le Cellier just to make up my own mind about it when I'm down in Feb 2006, hopefully for a chicken or vegetarian meal ::yes::

B-T-W, This is the first time I have read a thread that mention's a nice Disney restaurant in the same sentence as strippers and beer!!!!! :scared1:

As I don't eat red-meat, I won't get into the beef debate ;)
(British born, now a Canadian and Proud of it :teeth: )

We actually had a discussion with 'Penetang' regarding the beef and he definately stated it is 100% Canadian. I don't know the details etc so don't start asking about the beef ban etc etc. Anyway DH thought it was the best steak ever. My prime rib was good - not the best ever but fine. DHs cheese soup was exactly like I thought it should be - creamy, very good. All in all a great time for us. Although I can respect that sometimes they can have an off night per wee hagis' experience - we actually ate at California Grill and it was awful - and I've heard nothing but raves on here about CG. We just chalk it up to experience and move on. ;)

Ya remember we are Canadians we are the peace loving country LOL. I agree about the strippers also but your exchange rate is slowly deteriorating in our favour.

...this topic has always puzzled me - I'm right there with Zippidy from Buffalo -absolutely no comparison in beef quality between the two countries -the US is far superior in my opinion...I've come to the conclusion that Cdn taste buds must be somehow different in order to think otherwise.

I'm a very well travelled (both US & Canada - 100+ nights/year) business guy and here are some anecdotal comments -

* restaurant quality of course varies from restaurant to restaurant - considering for the most part the high-end places here (you never know what you may get at a roadhouse or diner)

* for those who think Le Cellier has the best beef in WDW - I would urge you to try Shula's in the Dolphin or Swan (you'll change your mind!)

* best and most popular steakhouses in Toronto are without a doubt - Mortons of Chicago (US chain), Ruth's Chris (US chain) and Harbor House 60 (or similiar) - a local place but uses US beef - in fact, all three of these place advertise heavily that they use US Prime Grade A Beef (the top 1% of cuts)
One visit here and chances are, you'll change your mind about US beef.

* when dining at some places in Canada that are purported to have "great steaks" ...i.e. Bumpers in Banff, the Hy's chain, Gibbys in Montreal - all have met with tremendous dissappointment with me, despite very high hopes for these places to satisfy (and I could tell after the first bite!)

* when taking Cdn sales reps (30 of them) out to dinner in Palm Springs, there was universal raves about the prime rib served at The Chart House on Rt 111 - and I mean comments that were so positive they clearly indicated nothing of that caliber had been consumed before by this large group!

* like Zippidy, I'll pay homage to what is done very well in Canada - butter tarts, Coffee Crisp and Aero candy bars (which I ship in regularly for my New Jersey co-workers), and beer - but I can't endorse steaks (and generally restaurant food quality) compared to America's!

* by the way, if you're in Ontario and find yourselves in Buffal (Zippidy's home base) ...I would urge you to try Fanny's Restaurant in Amherst - the complimentary cheese bread (loaded with cheese, butter, garlic etc...) is a good example of things that I can't seem to encounter in Canada - it's so good you could make a meal out of it! Not something you want to eat every day, but part of the splurge experience that should be part of dining out!!
