Dinner at Le Cellier

This was our first trip to this interesting restaurant. It is much smaller than I would have thought given the size of the building. I liked the look and detail. Our server was a bit frosty but we tried to make the best of it and finally cracked her exterior just a bit. Since the tables are close together, you can readily hear what other wait staff was saying. We did not get the same treatment. We didn't hear the info about the types of bread sticks and other little extras. Our service wasn't bad just not particularly attentive.

Onto the food!
Appetizers:
B-

We were on the dining plan so we started with the shrimp cocktail, mussels with corn and bacon in broth and the cheddar cheese soup. I thought the shrimp was very small sized for shrimp cocktail but the presentation was artful. If you are used to the large, meaty shrimp you will be disappointed. My youngest ate his entire mussels appetizer and then thought to say, "Oh, sorry, did you want to try one?" Obviously, he enjoyed them. I had the cheddar soup which was good but not exceptional. I was not wowed by the bread sticks.

Entrees
B-
My oldest chose the Filet Mignon which he enjoyed. My youngest chose the 14 oz strip steak and polished it off no problem. (He is a growing boy! ;) ) He did leave some of the grape tomato/frisee combo on his plate. And I chose the Filet with Mushroom Risotto. The beef was good and the risotto was very creamy and rich. I am not a particularly discerning diner of beef or risotto but I did not finish it. Good but not "knock your socks off" quality.

Dessert
B-
We had creme brulee, chocolate mousse (kid's menu) and raspberry sorbet. The boys finished but not me. I thought the sorbet was too sweet which masked the true raspberry flavor. I've had better but rate the desserts higher since the boys enjoyed theirs.

Service
C-
She wasn't bad but was not readily available. We asked another waitor for something we needed. When we asked our server about her home in Canada, she became a little more attentive. I regularly add to the Dining Plan tip but only gave her a small additional amount for the wine I ordered.

Overall, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return. I would rate the experience in the B- range. It certainly is not in the same league as Artist Point, Narcoosees or California Grill.

Next up, lunch at Pecos Bill's.

Great review! This is one of our favorite places to eat and will be back in May.

Thanks for the review. This is one of the places we have on our list to visit. It is not near the as near the top, but will probably eventually try it.

We had lunch at Le Cellier one day and our waiter gave us the whole spiel about how the breadsticks represent the different provinces... etc.. then a party was seated at the table right next to us (very close) and we noticed he never said a thing to them, just plunked the sticks down on the table :teeth:

So I dunno, maybe they get tired of repeating the speil for everyone?

I have made the Le Cellier cheddar soup at home from the WDW recipe and it is delicious, even better than the restaurant (I think) it freezes really well too, and reheats as good as the first pot.

let me know if you want the recipe & thanks for the review

Glad to hear you enjoyed Le Cellier...it's one of our favorites...good, consistent food served in an unpretensious a atmosphere.

A hint, we always ask for one of the more private tables/booths in the back, plenty of space.

Le Cellier didn't knock my socks off either.

I would not order the cheddar cheese soup or mushroom filet again, too rich and heavy for my tastes.

Enjoyed reading your review ~ Thanx for posting.

We have ate there twice and never been dissapointed. The mussels over pasta were so good! I thought the shrimp cocktail was really good! If you are looking for the large shrimp, I had the garlic shrimp appetizer at Spoodles and they were out of this world! :earsboy:

Cass,

I would love to check out the recipe for the soup. Why don't you post it for all of us?

Thanks,
penny

Le Cellier sounds like a real good resturant and I want to try it, but as a Canadian do you think it is silly for me to fly all the way down to WDW and eat at a Canadian resturant? :hyper: (I know, this is a stupid question)

TLPL,

Whatever excuse you need to use to get to WDW is just fine by me! So many restaurants, so little time!!!

No way, not silly at all.. show them your support as a fellow Canadian & be proud that they do so well in Epcot.

We had lunch at LeCellier on Wednesday for the first time. It didn't do much for us. I didn't care for the atmosphere at all. Just very ordinary to me. My DH and I both had the Canadian Cheese Soup and it was fine, but after reading all the reviews about this soup I guess my expectations were high. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. I had a steakburger with bleu cheese and my DH and DS both had the french dip sandwich. Again, they said their lunches were fine - not particularly outstanding.

Service was okay. The bill was $70 with the tip and it seems like alot of money for two cups of soup, a burger, two sandwiches and couple of sodas.

Next time, we are going to try the French restaurant - more atmosphere.

Le Cellier - now one of my favorite places to eat. We had one of the best dinners ever on WDW property. Now, I'm not a huge meat eater to begin with but I had the filet migon and my DW and DD had surf and turf. The service was great, the food was better and the atmosphere was perfect. We all loved it. My steak had some type of sauce on it so I'm not sure if that appeals to all devoted steak lovers but for me it was fine. We had a 6:00pm PS and we were seated on time.

I loved it. Easily the best meal I've had at Epcot, although I do like the Coral Reef. I went home and promptly downloaded the recipe for the cheese soup. THe pretzel breadsticks were also fantastic.

I'd like to compliment fast, friendly and efficient service as well. A huge thumbs up from me.
