Is Lay-Z-Boy one of those places that will "work" the price if you're a good negotiator? I'm looking at some great furniture but I've never purchased from them before. I wouldn't mind paying the price they are asking but if I can get it cheaper, how could I say no to that!?

In my experience, ANY furniture store and most other stores in general will negotiate with you. The secret is to bring cash. Preferably hundred dollar bills. Show them the money and say, this is what I'm willing to pay, that includes tax and delivery. Work from there. You always have the option of walking out too.

I once accidentally talked down a mattress dealer just by being honest and telling him I wasn't ready to buy. He didn't believe me. I didn't buy the mattress, but he talked himself down from $1600 for a king size set to $600 including delivery for the same set. I finally had to explain for the hundredth time I really was only window shopping and was not ready to buy. :rolleyes1

I've gotten $100 off on my $1000 washing machine just by bringing in cash and telling the dealor I didn't want to pay any more than $900.

One thing that you can always do if you don't like to negotiate. If they have a sale going 6 months same as cash, find out how much they sell your account to the credit company for and explain that I have cash now, so I'll pay you what you'd sell my account to your credit company for. That's usually a good % off what you'd pay. 6 months is never the same as cash.

We have a Lazboy here, and I went in, looking at a couple of the clearance pieces, sitting and thinking, I was dressed really scuzzy (hadnt planned on shopping) got to talking and she mentioned taking off $100, I wasnt prepared to buy, needed to talk to dh, asked about delivery charges and she said she could take another % off the couch, but the delivery price was set at $59 as it was contracted out...

I just bought two recliners from them that I had custom made. I think if I had bought something more "stock" they would maybe have worked some with me. With these they were pretty much flat rate, but they do have some decent sales. The shipping for both was $45.

BTW - Havertys was willing to work more on the La-z-Boy stuff price wise with me, but they couldn't do everything different w/ them that I wanted. In case you're ordering something, the production/delivery time was right at 6 weeks, they quoted 4-6 weeks.
