LAX hotel

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel near LAX for a one night stopover? I don't suppose it really matters for one night only, but I want to start our holiday off on a good note.

We arrive at LAX at 10:45am so I'm figuring about 1-2 hrs for customs. Ideally a hotel with a decent pool to laze away the afternoon before an early night would be good. Our flight to MCO the next day leaves at 9am, so I figure we'll grab food at the airport instead of eating at the hotel.

Thanks, Liz

On our last stay, we used the Sheraton Gateway at the start of our trip and the Marriott LAX at the end. Both were perfectly adequate and fairly similar. Similar rooms, similar meals in the casual restaurant, and both had quick easy-to-catch shuttles. We didn't use either pool as it was a bit cold, but the Marriott's looked a bit nicer.

For my next stay I'm keeping an eye out for deals on the Embassy Suites and the Four Points hotels as they are both across the road from the rental car place we'll be using. If price is similar, I'll opt for Embassy suites due to their included breakfast and complimentary evening reception.

But, if all you are after is a nice place near the airport, I would consider doing what I did and taking a gamble with a website like Hotwire. The mystery hotels are considerably cheaper. Plus, with a bit of research, I'd pretty much worked out that the mystery hotel I was booking was the Sheraton Gateway.

I can vouch for LAX Marriott (make sure it is the Marriott, not Marriott Courtyard) free shuttle to/from LAX, great service, nice pool, quiet rooms. Stayed there on business and am returning for pleasure next year. On our next trip, we will take advantage of the hop on/off tour shuttle that I saw advertised during my last stay. Don't remember the exact cost, but it was reasonable and will enable us to see LA sites without dealing with driving.

Thanks for your replies, I've had a look at both the Marriott and the Sheraton Gateway and they both look good so I think I'll keep an eye out for a good price on either of those. I might check Hotwire closer to our travel time, there's not much for our dates on their website at the moment, might be a bit early yet.

Roll on September!!

We stay at the LAX Hilton, great friendly staff, short 10 minute drive from the airport and they have a 24 hour food place downstairs. Plus we are Hilton honor members so receive complimentary wifi great for those 24 hours in transit :)

I'm also going to suggest Hotwire or Priceline. We got Hilton LAX for less then $100 a night, which was great.

It's on a "Trolley" line - can't remember what it's called, but it's a bus that looks like an old school trolley, which drops you off at a heap of places and runs all day. We spent our layover out shopping, which was great.

Thanks, the Hilton looks lovely. I'll put it on my "watch" list. Its good that they have a 24 hour food option because who knows what state we'll be jn when we arrive? Hopefully we can stay awake until night time, but not sure. My 9yr old DD has a mild form of epilepsy which can lead to seizures if she's overtired so we'll play it by ear.

Happy 2014!!

Thanks Bec, the Hilton looks good. I'll check out the trolley, might help us all stay awake instead of crashing all afternoon. We will probably have to have a bit of a rest for DD to avoid her being overtired, but if we can get out and about a bit it will help us get a decent sleep that night.

Hope 2014 brings all that you wish for, Liz

They have "mystery" hotel bookings with photo's so makes them easily identify-able :)

They currently have Los Angeles airport Marriott for $95USD and it shows on hotels.com for $151AUD

Thanks becpee, I just booked Marriott at LAX for US$106 ($118 in AUD) for our stopover using lastminute travel. It gets pretty decent tripadvisor reviews so I'm sure we'll enjoy it. The pool area looks nice and big so we can spend some time there - weather Gods willing.

Thanks again, Liz
